Sorry you had a terrible experience over there. I haven’t gone on the boards over there just because I have heard some not very nice things about the people that frequent them. I only go over there to check out the ideas.

We are also paying for our own wedding and I am doing a ton of DIY. You can check out my posts to see what I have done. I didn’t make my gown, but I am making my girls dresses. I took a peek at your gown and you did a wonderful job. I am not a fan of the blue, but that is because I am more of a traditional bride. I will be wearing a full ballgown with the most poof I can get. I hope the dresses that I am making for my girls turn out as nice as your gown did for you.

You probably know this by now, but the bees on this forum are much nicer than over there.

I never really have been on theknot boards, but I made my wedding website there and it’s been nothing but a PITA!!! When I first got engaged, theknot was the only place I had ever heard of (I was wedding-naïve!), and so I just made my wedding website there. Didn’t know there was an issue until I sent out my Save-The-Date Cards and come to find that no one can find my personal wedding website, even through theknot’s own “search” function. Had I known what a PITA they would be to work with, I would have made my website somewhere else! Rawr!

I keep hearing about how awful the knot’s boards are so I’ve poked around there a bit.  I honestly don’t think that they are as bad as what’s been said, although I may have missed the really bad ones.

With that being said, I did see the post you put on there (at least I think its the one) regarding the dress and the gal never said “ewww”.  She said:

“I’ll get grief for this, but it looks like you made it yourself.  It does not look polished.  I think it’s a fair effort and maybe this is exactly what you want.  But, you asked for opinions.  I could go on, but I won’t.

As a disclaimer, I do not think a person should have to spend a lot on a dress.  There are options out there for $300 or less for wedding dresses.  Good luck.”

You asked for opinions and she gave one.  Yes, she could have been more gentle about it or could have said it in a different way, but when you ask for opinions to an anonymous website, you will get opinions in return.  You may like them, you may not like them.  I tend to say things very matter-of-factly, which can be easily misconstrued when it comes to the internet.  She probably wasn’t trying to be mean or rude, but it might have come across that way.  Its a risk we all take when writing on a faceless, nameless board.

Personally, I know that take things very hard when I have made something and I don’t receive the response I am looking for.  But that’s part of the difficulty in asking for others opinions.  Similar to what she said, I am sure I will get grief for this, but I wanted to at least give you my honest opinion about the Knot’s website.

Ha>> i had this same issue last week.  I was asking advice and i referred to my wedding as “my BIg Day”  and instead of answering my advice.  They bashed me for referring to my wedding as my big day?  I was stressed out as it was, that just topped it off.  I ended up deleting my account with them last week because of it.  I will say that i asked the same question here and got some amazing advice.  “the knot” is just a waste of time, with girls that forgot to take their bitch pills.  : )  Hope you found the advice you were looking for!

I don’t even know how to use the knot boards! I’ve tried to a couple times, but the ‘boards’ I think are the actual boards only let you see the tiny bottom of th escreen so you have to scroll to ready anythign adn the rest is all advertisements. That in itself was annoying enough, so I just came back to WB.

the national boards are the really nasty ones (ie Etiquette)…apparently the local ones are a lot better
