I’m really starting to wish I was having an afternoon tea reception rather than the evening function we’re having. Grrr, why couldn’t you have posted this 4 months ago? Lol.

I really couldn’t eat much of what you’re serving at your wedding, but if I was close enough to you to be invited I’d be there without any complaints.  I’d be going to celebrate the happy couple, not for the food.

@iseultful2013:  I know!  Or actually… it would have needed to have been posted 7 months ago for me since that’s when I reserved my venue.

*sigh*

We’re doing a Friday evening wedding… but I’m not making it black tie or anything.  But the afternoon tea sounds so lovely!

I love this idea! My bridesmaids and mother’s friends had a high tea for my shower for 70 people. We just had a green salad, fruit salad, tea sandwhiches, cookies and pastries (no quiche—which is filling) and we had extra food left over—we had to throw some away after they went bad later in the week! I think people don’t understand what a high tea is. And 3 hours isn’t a long time for a wedding—I seriously cannot wrao my head around the fact that you and some other posters think some guest will downright walk out of your reception because they are being served something they want. Unbelievable. I think I’ve heard it all now! Ugh. Good luck—and I bet you will have some leftovers!

I think your menu sounds awesome! It also seems like plenty of food so that everyone will be good and full if that is what they want. What a fun idea for a morning/afternoon wedding!

Your menu sounds fantastic!  I am a big fan of tea and the cuisine that goes along with it.  Your dishes sound delicious and it sounds like you will have plenty!  Don’t listen to anyone who is complaining.  I’ve learned that you can’t make everyone happy.  It is your day and you need to enjoy it.  Please post pictures of everything, I would love to see how it turns out with your theme!

@shaykitteh:  What type of venue is it? We’re having a Saturday night reception. Our original plan was to have the wedding in the morning at a venue where we’d have a barista set up, a small breakfast buffet, and champagne. After a 3 hour reception in the morning with the wedding guests, we were going to have a small, formal lunch with just the bridal party and FI’s family, then a 4 hour break before our evening function for all the guests. A big part of having the guests break off for the lunch is because a lot of our non-bridal party guests have very young kids and they want to get the babies fed and down for a nap at home.

But our wedding venue crapped out on us last week so we had to scramble to get a new venue, and the only one we liked that wasn’t booked was a local church. So no breakfast buffet anymore, and our lunch is still booked and the deposit is paid, but there’s no way we can afford to pay for all the wedding guests to go to the lunch. So it’s still just the bridal party and FI’s family. Not much we can do there, really.

If we hadn’t paid for our evening venue, like you have, and our music, I’d totally just scrap the evening function completely and have an afternoon tea somewhere else! It’s one of the best ideas I’ve ever heard for a wedding reception.

Wow. I just read through all of this and I really have trouble with everyone expecting things to be done ‘their’ way…whether guests to a wedding or posters on here. Everyone has different ideas and different financial constraints for their wedding and who are you to question that or call them rude because of it?

There is more than enough food at high tea. Honestly…we wonder why obesity is an epidemic these days while complaining that multiple sandwiches, quiches, cakes, biscuits and scones are not enough for lunch?!

As for alcohol, calling someone rude for not following ‘your’ opinion is the epitome of rudeness IMO. Every place or culture has differing ideas about certain things so before calling someone rude maybe you should consider that they may have different standards in that area for what they are doing. There could be no alcohol for cultural, religious or any other reason…honestly it’s none of our business why they have decided this…it’s just THEIR DECISION!

OP…stick to your decisions (as you are doing) and enjoy your wedding. Honestly, I think you are a much more patient person than I because I would have told your Future Mother-In-Law to stuff it the instant she tried to invite more people. I can’t believe that you cut out friends and your FAMILY for that! I would be tempted to go back over the list and cut out all the complainers and add back in those people you want…you’ll be a lot happier in the end!

@iseultful2013:  Our venue is a small boutique hotel.  The wedding is at 6pm and will last 30 minutes or less… hors d’oeuvres and photos are from 6:30-7:30, and then the reception starts and will last until about 11:30-midnight.  We are having a full plated dinner, but overall we’re having a shorter wedding/reception than most people… it helps that the ceremony & reception are at the same place so we don’t have so much of a down time between the two.
