Ok this is going to be long but I need to write it down somewhere because it just makes me so angry. So a friend of mine had a total of 9 animals. She would constantly complain about starving herself to feed her animals and about how she is looking at getting yet another animal. Well she decieded she wants to be a dog breeder as a career. She has zero experiecne in this area and against the advice from others refuses to intern with a breeder even if it is a breeder of the breed of dog she is not interested in. She says she is going to be a hobby breeder and charge $3000 per pup min. and is getting her first pup from another “hobby breeder” that breeds their females every heat cycle, doesn’t sound like a hobby breeder. Fast forward a couple of months, she is having serious relationship issues with her Fiance saying he will leave if she does not change and fix the relationship, note he has been known to cheat on her. She lost her job and got arrested for stealing from said job, had to make bail and everything. She also is always posting how she has to work all the time and has no time for her animals and that she and Fiance are in a large amount of debt, this is all over facebook some of it even on her business page for her breeding career. Well she made the decision a couple of weeks ago that if she was going to get her pup this next summer she needed to get rid of a majority of her pets, she is down to two. So she posted ads on facebook to try and find their new forever homes. I am slightly ok with someone giving up their animals if the enviroment really isn’t good for them but to get rid of your animals to make room for a new one is just wrong. Thanks for reading my rant, I needed to post my furstrations somewhere.

misslioness : Hole-E-shit. What is wrong with this woman?
First off, depending where you are located, what she wants to do is ILLEGAL (as breeders require strict licensing and it’s illegal to sell/adopt dogs that haven’t been fixed).
Secondly, it sounds like she thinks this will be some kind of quick fix to her financial trouble. “Oh, I’ll just have the femal dog pop out about 6 pups and then I’ll have $18k!!! And do it all over again!” Pretty sure it it was that easy, everyone would do it. And to go for $3k, it has to be a specialty breed in high demand like a Malinois. And for that purchasers have high high standards.
Thirdly, what kinhd of monster gets rid of their FAMILY MEMBERS in order to make a buck? Like yeah, if she can’t afford all of her pets, it’s probably a good idea to rehome a few, but to then go have the new dog pop out puppies seems so greedy and hypocritical.
I predict that after the first batch of puppies, she’ll be unable to sell them and then she’ll bitch and moan and start a kickstarter about it.

I couldn’t be friends with a person like this.

Please tell me she isn’t going to breed bulldogs.

She is delusional and selfish.

Call the SPCA, police or whatever is equivalent in your area. I’m an f-ing rat when it comes to people like this. A knock on the door and some paperwork filed is usually enough to scare basic people.
Irresponsible pet owners vex me to no end. I’ve taken action numerous times. I’ve already told my SIL that if she gets another animal I’m calling the police. I’ve told her son, straight up to his face, not to ask his mother for an animal because she’ll cave, neglect it and it will be another animal rehomed! They’ve gone through 2 dogs (a husky and a boxer so tougher dogs to rehome) and like 3 cats in 1 year.

She sucks. A friend of mine’s family was dog breeders growing up. Each dog was bred once, maybe twice, and if there was ANY sign of issues with the pregnancy, the dog was never bred again. Also, their dogs sold AT MOST at 1800 so not sure where this $3,000 is from. People paying that amount are probably going to want AKC papers and a history of AKC champions.
Regardless, your friends a moron and I’d probably stop talking to her.

gingerkitten : That is my same prediction after the first litter.
Beegritte : We are not really friends anymore she dropped me after I got engaged before her and she started to use other friends as fake references for jobs.
Schmashley : She is going to breed long haired german shepards

She is at a terrible point of her life, by her own bad decisions and many innocent animals will pay the price. Awful.
Edit- might be different prices where she is but German Shepards go for about $300-$400, not $3000 where I live. She needs a reality check

WesterosBarbie : I really want to but at the same time I am afriad of losing a best friend since some of the information I know is through her, she has been friends with the women wanting to breed dogs since they were young children. If she really does go ahead and get this pup though I think I will, we don’t need another back yard breeder.
weatherbug : And upon reading what a hobby breeder was and then looking at where she was is getting the pup from, these people selling her the pup are not trained or respectable breeders either. They are also charging $2000 for a fixed pup and upwards of $3000 for an unfixed female. The pup will have AKC papers as its parents do but as far as I can tell the breeder she is getting a pup from don’t show their dogs so most likely not a champion line. She has also been denied pups from all other breeders in state for “having to much on her plate.” This is a new in state breeder she is getting the pup from otherwise she would have had to have gone out of state.

misslioness : Wow. Breeders keep turning her down and she still doesn’t get it?
ETA: This especially makes me sick because I have a friend who runs a dog rescue and they can’t get them homes fast enough. Okay, I’m done, I swear…

I hate this for so many reasons. As someone who is part of a husky rescue and volunteers at my local animal shelter, the fact that an unqualified, unlicensed “backyard breeder” is trying to bring more animals into the world to solve her financial problems just burns me. There are already thousands of unwanted pets that need homes – for someone to add to that just for financial gain is incredibly selfish. Especially the fact that she gave up her own animals to do so!!!! I could never dream of giving up my pets for any reason and reading what your friend is doing made my heart hurt. You are right for feeling upset by this and I truly hope she comes to her senses and decides not to move forward with her “plan.”

misslioness : Look on the bright side – she doesn’t deserve those pets anyway and they’re off to a better life with someone else. Poor puppy that has to stay there, though She sounds like she’s falling apart in life and could probably use some professional help. I doubt there’s much you personally can do.
