I have been in the animal health field now for three years. The company I am currently with I have been with fire two years this upcoming March. I left another job for this one, accepting a bit of a pay cut but ultimately decided this was going to be better in the long run. I got hired on making $10 an hour at the age of 19. It was okay, but I decided it was a good place to start and work my way up. A few weeks later, my pay was cut to minimum wage. . .$8.50/hr. because I was unfamiliar with the practice and seemed rushed. Well no shit! You give me no training and expect me to fend for myself while I’ve got no clue as to what’s going on around me. Huge slap in the face.
We got bought out by another company a year ago, and the manager thought it was absurd that I was getting paid as little as I do for my workload. I was told that I’d receive a raise once things were more settled. That was almost a year ago, and I have seen zero increase in pay. I take xrays, draw blood, assist with surgeries, take care of animals post surgery, treat illnesses under the veterinarians supervision. And I get paid just as much as when I just walked, fed, and picked up poop at the vet office I worked at when I was 17. I am now 22. This is the only field I have been in, so I am afraid of being rejected because I only have vet experience. But I’ve had enough. I don’t even look forward to coming to work any more. It’s draining. I work 6 days of theweek most weeks and the overtime isn’t worth the stress and hassle. My co-workers aren’t the nicest, either.
Have you ever experienced this before? I’ve thought of what I would love to say vs what would be much more appropriate. . . lol!
