:L I must say I absolutly hate when people feed my animals. I got sort of lucky with only a 50% chance they will be feeling it later. I just think its so rude like “you dont know what your doig and I know whats best” when they sneak around you like that. You don’t give a grape to your friends baby without asking permision first right?

ARGH my roommates keep giving my dog people food, and we’re 90% sure she has allergies! Not to mention that she has a super sensitive tummy!

I find random cans of cheap ass wet dog food in our fridge sometimes! And one of my roommates thinks it’s adorable that my dog loves her waffles. I’m sure she does since you cover them in cinnamon sugar and syrup! Ugh!

What is wrong with people?!?!?!

Ugh, I HATE that!

I’m *super* health conscious when it comes to my pets’ diets, so my cat and dog each get a mix of raw meat and very (expensive) high-quality dog and cat food.

People love to feed my dog junk. I don’t mind *too* much when it’s a scrap of meat here or there, but seriously??? You want to feed my dog pretzels and peanuts?! Just cut. it. out.

The worst by far was when Fiance was living with his old roommate, and he CONSTANTLY overfed our cat. It wasn’t that he would give the cat the wrong food-

It was that after we left the apartment, the roommate would go and FILL THE CAT’S ENTIRE BOWL with his cat food. He had a thing for obese cats and kept saying ours was too skinny.

So now our cat (whose ideal weight according to the vet should be between 17-18 lbs) was up to 21.5 lbs. After he moved out we started slowly cutting back on the amount of food he was used to getting (in order to make sure his liver would be alright) and he’s been slowly and steadily creeping back to his goal weight.

Dog poop talk doesn’t bother me in the least… chat away!

This drives me crazy. DH’s family… I love them so much, but they feed the dogs people food all the time! One person’s dog had been puking this weekend, and she was holding it off everything but it’s regular diet, but of course everybody ignored that and fed it anyway. Luckily there were no more incidents. I’d like to start my dog on a feeding trial because he has mild signs of allergies, but it’s basically pointless since there’s no way I can keep every single person I know from feeding him for 12 weeks. smh

From reading this thread it looks like I’m lucky though, in that my pup has an iron stomach. Nothing seems to upset his GI system.

Anybody else hate it from the beggy/whiny habits that it gets their pets into as well?

I hate this so much. My puppy (12yrs old but always a puppy to me) doesnt do well with corn or chicken, so I pay out the nose for primo food for her. On top of that, if she so much as sees crap food, she has the upsets. I had to first train ExH and now Fiance how to handle giving her treats. They just couldn’t resist her big puppy eyes and would give her a piece of whatever they’re noshing on. FOR FU’S SAKE! YOU SEE THE FREAKING DOG FOOD BILLS! I cured that quickly with Fiance after I made him take her on walks when she’s had the upsets. Now there are always two bags of treats in the fridge for Fiance to bribe her with. Ha, he scours the ingredients of treats and asks if we can buy her this or that since it’s Future_Mrs approved stuff.

@risingsun:  Oh yeah the fun new beggy habits are annoying. I had her trained to just lay down away from me while eating. Now she’s always in everyone’s face. Sort of. It’s still a pretty chill form of begging since she keeps her distance and doesn’t whine, but it’s creepy to be eating and having a Grim staring right into your soul.

Ugh, this drives me nuts!!  My husband is finally realizing WHY I am against people food for our dogs.  Runny poo every time.

Don’t let your dogs wander while people are over who will give them food they aren’t supposed to have?

I HATE this more than anything. I was excited to move into a house with a big yard for my dog to enjoy and within a week of us moving in, I caught my neighbor’s grandson feeding him scraps through the fence. I said something to him, and he stopped, for a while, until I noticed that instead of feeding him through the fence, he was just throwing scraps over it into the yard.  A few weeks ago I let the dog out, and I guess he didn’t know I was home, but I caught him in my back yard with a bowl full of crap trying to give it to the dog. I walked out and asked him if he had trouble comprehending speech because I had told him multiple times to stop feeding my dog and now he’s in my back yard. The guy is in his 30’s, but I had to have a discussion with his grandparents to get him to stop. Needless to say I never let my dog outside alone anymore, just in case.

I also hate it when guests come over and try to feed him scraps. One girl tried to feed him some of her sub that was loaded down with onions and peppers. Onions can kill a dog.

Ugh, it irks me to no end. I wouldn’t come over to your house and try to feed your pets so don’t try to feed mine.

@MrsBroccoli:  Yes! Always the guilt trip! I’m sorry, but you’re just a guest here. You do that once, and I am the one dealing with the doggie staredown or a head in my lap for the next week. Finally he’ll go back to just laying in the living room like a good boy… until somebody feeds him from the table and it starts again.

@HisMoon:  Literally laughed out loud. My pup is the sweetest dog in the world, but I swear his eyes are so intense when you are eating something he wants.

@SouthernGirl:  A grown man? Seriously? What the heck is his deal?

Inevitably someone always says “but we fed our dog whatever and he was fine”… Yell

@risingsun:  I’m not sure. His grandmother is usually always stopping by to say hello and help me take care of the roses I have out front. I don’t have a green thumb and they were planted when I moved in, but she’s always been very vague about her grandson. Just that he lives with her because of some issues. He disappears for weeks at a time and gets her all worked up. I think he’s got some kind of record. My stepdad is the police chief where I grew up and just the way the guy presents himself screams “I’m kind of weird” to me. Not to mention the day I moved in he stopped to talk to my FH and I caught him staring at me through the bedroom window. He’s also just popped up in the dark when I’m home alone and outside to ask me for random things, like a water hose or a cigarette lighter. It’s strange, very strange. Him feeding the dog is only one on many run ins I’ve had with him.

I feel like it’s incredibly rude of them not to ask first. Just like giving candy or sweets to a child – you ask the parent first, don’t you? Why is a dog any different? I’m very particular on the type of dog food my dog eats, the treats she gets, and IF she gets people food – what and how much it is (because she has a sensitive tummy). I am not one of those people that walks away as if nothing happened when she poops. If I’m picking it up and bagging it, it had better not be liquid! I can absolutely empathize with you on this one. It was very difficult to find the right foods for her. If someone came along and messed up her tummy again now, I’d be livid! You have every right to be irritated.

@chasesgirl:  My dogs.  My house.  They can wander where ever they please.  They live here.  Guests do not.  They should respect dog parent wishes. 🙂

I tell people not to feed my dogs people food.  I have all sorts of good dog treats from the Honest Kitchen and Zukes.  The people food they do get, is organic and cooked by me.
