Don’t forget that these people want to be tipped.  On top of their huge fees….

That’s my *favorite* part of wedding fees.

Shop around. My DJ was fantastic and cost me ~$700 for both ceremony and reception. And I’m in a more expensive part of the US.

Maybe I’ll have my Fiance work the corner a few nights a week? Maybe I could strip? Wait, i’m seriously lacking in the boobie department; I’ll have to have him do that too!

But seriously! I’m just getting started with all the planning and i’m already freaking out about staying under budget! Things should not be this expensive!!

HAHA you make me giggle, maybe you guys can whore yourselfs out as a couple? LOL JK  I’m sorry your wedding is so stressfull 🙁  I’d say as long as you are in budget don’t let the money cause you to much stress, it’s not worth it.  Good luck!!!

@irishphoenix:  Same here and we are both in CT!!!! I have found my prices for much cheaper by negotiating and doing some stuff myself- but I also had a LONG engagement (almost 20 months) to price shop and plan. My venue is amazing- serving everything we want, including an ice sculpture and I am only paying $80 pp. They didn’t tack on any extras too like most venues do.

My DJ is costing $695 for two people plus an extra hour. I got them on a discount (military) but even their regular price would have been $895.

@DDG84:

There are so many unecessary costs at weddings, I agree. Some of the costs are astronomical.

What I am doing:

Limos rather than having a limo, I am using a cab. I live in a metropolitan city where I can use services like Uber or the local taxi company to shuffle myself and the groom and our small bridal party (2 each).

DJ we are using a DJ but my mom, who works in the food industry, was able to get a great deal. Do you have family, friends, relatives that are able to get you a deal ?

Talk to your family about it. Even though, it looks like, you are paying for the wedding, I would still seek help and hook ups. EVERYONE does that ;p

tell me about it. I’m eyeing  up everything I can sell on eBay, considering wrapping presents for Christmas for cash, and thinking about how I can use things I own to make DIY stuff!

I have a healthy budget – but I still want to get as much as I can for my money!

I think you need to keep looking.  I’m in DC, which usually has pricing on par with the NYC area, and my DJ was $1100 for the whole night, and my limo/car rentals cost me $800 (14 person limo + lux towncar)

Seems like the average in my area is about $700 but I still managed to find one for $450. He works by himself, no company to take fees etc. I actually got his info from my cousin, he was her DJ, and she got his name from her reception venue. Ask around, I bet you can find a better deal on the DJ. As for transportation, we just drove my husband’s 1971 Jeep! The Bridal Party carpooled. It was totally fine, I haven’t been to that many weddings with limos in the past few years anyway, they’re too expensive!

By The Way: Our budget was about $12,000 and we had 220 guests… with a church wedding, full dinner, beer and wine (no liquor), dancing, and it was a heck of a lot of fun! We did a lot of DIY and were able to sell over $1000 worth of wedding stuff afterwards, so we came in about $11,000! That literally includes everything (photographer, rings, rehearsal) except the honeymoon. You can do it!
