Has anyone ever had something like this? Ok, I’ve had like a rash/redness/iritation on my engagement ring finger for about 3-4 weeks now? It started out as a small red circle, exactly the same size/shape/placement as the halo on my e-ring. It wasn’t itchy, but it hurt- like dry cracked skin in the winter.
Moved my ring to my right hand and have had no reaction on my right hand, so I’m pretty sure it’s not a reaction to the ring itself (plus it’s platinum, which is nonreactive, I think?)
Looking at it now, it’s not as red/painful as it was at first, but is also no longer a perfectly round circle, it’s just kinda a splotchy rash on that knuckle. Vaseline seems to help, and heat (i.e. taking a shower/bath) seems to make it worse.
I googled eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis- doesn’t look like any of them, and doesn’t match the symptoms, since the number one thing with most rashes is they are ITCHY!
Any ideas? Is there a doctor in the house hive?

It sounds like an allergy. But te fact that it is platnium confuses me because most people with metal allergies are allergic to the nickel in white gold.

It’s probably from water getting trapped under your ring when you wash your hands etc. You could try to take a break from wearing the ring and get an antifungal on there for good measure.

Are your hands in water/damp a lot? I would get this working at a restaurant, because we had to wash our hands so much, and even when you dried your hands, under the ring would remain damp. Over time a bacterial/fungal thing growns and cause red blothcy spots- sometimes they itch sometimes they don’t. The best way to get rid of it was not wear the ring when your hands will be getting wet, and if its really bad, you can use an athletes’s foot creme on it. The fact that it gets worse in shower/bath really makes me think this might be what it is- as soon as there is moisture its easier for it to grow and spread. keeping it dry will make it shrink.

I will try an athlete’s foot treatment, thank you! Should I just keep the ring off that finger until the red patch is gone? It’s weird having my ring on the “wrong” hand lol!
