We’ve thought about doing video, but figured most people have video capabilities on their cell phones now, so just going with regular pictures.

Have you thought of setting up a stationary camcorder, and possibly having a trusted friend or relative manage the camcorder?

@subola:  My questions to you are;

1. Do you have experience editing videos

2. Do you have a suitable program to edit the video

my videographer gave me all the raw footage, an edited long movie (2.5 hours) and an edited short movie (20 minutes). I was only going to hire him to give us the raw footage and get my father in law to edit it but a) there was no guarantee of quality b) there was no guarantee of when i’d get it.

How much woukd tgat videographer charge to edit? If you’re on a really strict budget, you coukd always just get the raw furst, then pay for someone to edit later on…

We got a raw video, but it was a long time ago, when home editing was unavailable. We just watch it how it is. But it’s only about 1 and a bit hours, not 8! It would depend how good you are at editing videos. (Otherwise, perhaps a teenager in the family could do it?) I guess worst case you could just make it the ceremony + the speeches for about a 1 hour video. That’s pretty well what our (very enjoyable) video is: the ceremony, the speeches, and a few other little bits.

@subola:  No that sounds very sensible. I almost didn’t hire avideographer because Ithought pictures would be enough but thank goodness i changed my mind. Not having video would have been my biggest regret.

You’ve got your bases covered. You can always try and if it doesn’t turn out the way you want, hire an editor.
