I am seriously racking my brain trying to find a song for our first dance that isn’t super cliche and overdone. Right now I’m thinking Blessed – Daniel Caesar or As- Marsha Ambrosius and Anthony Hamilto (Stevie Wonder remake). I love both of these songs, but I just dont know how to tell which is the one!
What do y’all think of these songs? What were your R&B first dance songs?
Thanks in advance!!!

I like both songs, but I think I may like “As” just a tad bit more. My first dance song will be “Adore” by Prince. “Adore” has been our song throughout our relationship and he proposed to me with that song playing as well.

We’re not announcing our first dance and waiting until sunset, basically a photo op more than anything, so our song will be whatever is playing at the time. But if we were coordinating this with the DJ it would have been Angel by Anita Baker. One of Fiance favorite songs. Good luck!

This is more so old school…but you’re my latest greatest inspiration by teddy p. Or ordinary love by Sade. Or whatever by Jill Scott, love those songs…ok scratch the Jill song it’s a sex song lol unless that’s how you want to represent! Lol

I like both but my choice would be “Blessed.” I do not want a song that everyone else used or that was popular in music now so we are dancing to “Make Me Whole” by Amel Larrieux. My friend used “You Were Meant For Me” by Donny Hathaway if you wanna take it back lol. I also have always thought that “Whenever You Call” by Mariah Carey would be a nice first dance song as well. Also “Hey” by KING is beautiful.

I love the suggestions!! There are so many to choose from, it makes making a decision even harder.

Both good choices! I kinda prefer As?
We’re going to dance to So In Love by Curtis Mayfield.

We did “You and I” by John Legend. It was a great song to dance to – good speed, variety, dramatic moments, etc. It’s not super common but we still hear it on the radio every once in a while and it’s a nice treat.

We will be dancing to “Sure Thing” by Miguel. It’s a bit more up-tempo, but it fits us.
