We got engaged December 2011 and he proposed with a gorgeous ring I had picked out …. a peach sapphire with diamond halo and side stones from Eidel Precious. We bought a “matching” diamond band from Lord of the Gems on eBay and another one for our 1 year anniversary. By 2013, I had broken the shank of a wedding band, lost several stones in the 3 rings and one of the main prongs on the sapphire had be worn down (?) …. I took it to several local jewlers who all advised me the same thing …. just reset the stone. The dainty, hand crafted ring wasn’t up to snuff as far as quality control and even if they fixed it, stuff was going to get lost or broken in the future. I couldn’t find a local jeweler who would touch it.
(Here is a pic with just one of the bands, but you get the idea)
I decided on a simple 3 stone setting in rose gold still. We found trillion cut white sapphires from an estate sale and decided to use them for the side stones. I picked up my re-set ring on Thursday! The custom band wont be ready for another 4 weeks :/ but I am SO in love with my new ring! I might even love it more than the original!

I prefer the reset, actually, so place me in the “Hooray for repairs!” category.

Wow!! LOVE your reset. It is so beautiful and elegant. I think the setting you chose, along with the rose gold, really sets off your center stone in such a beautiful way. And the 3-stone is very flattering to your finger. I’m so happy for you that your reset turned out really well. It’s awful that you had to go through the pain of your ERing losing stones and your W-bands breaking. But yay (!!) for happy endings!!
I hope you will post pictures of your new wedding band, too. I would love to see them together.
