I’m hoping to get a little styling help for my dress. I bought the Maggie Sottero “Reba” dress in January, and I’ve been wavering a bit ever since. I think it is beautiful and the most flattering of all that I tried on, but it’s not the kind of dress I’d always thought I wanted (big full skirt with pockets with a square neckline and/or straps). I think I’m mostly worried that the dress has a more “glamorous” vibe than I’m comfortable with. I like simple and vintage looks, in general.
I was thinking that by changing the applique on the sash I could make the dress feel more vintage, and adding straps would make it feel a little more demure. I love to get some more opinions and advice.
I don’t really like sashes with tons of crystals or rhinestones, unless they have an antique or art deco look to them. That said, I will still have a good deal of sparkle from a family heirloom diamond necklace and earrings from the ’20’s).
When I was dress shopping I fell in love with this watters belt, but I can’t justify paying half the price of my gown on a belt.
So, I found this headpiece by Millie Icaro that I think has a similar kind of look:
I was thinking I could swap out the applique that comes on sash with this one. I just want to be fairly certain before I buy it because there are no returns. I saw one person selling her sash of the same design because it was “more silver” than she realized. What to you all think? Could it work? Has anyone bought any of Millie Icaro’s pieces before?
And the Straps:
I was thinking of adding simple straps like this:
Or, would it even be possible to add straps more like this if the back of the dress stops several incehes below my shoulder blades?:
Any insights or opinions you can give me would be much appreciated! Thanks for reading and helping out a very indecisive bride!
