Fellow home owner bees… What is a normal turn around time for a real estate agent to call back regarding a house? My Mother-In-Law reccomended her agent to us and I spoke with her last Friday about a house I’m interested in. She said she would look into it and get back to me but I haven’t heard anything. Is it normal to take close to a week to hear back or is she not very quick? It makes me worry since once we find THE house and she normally takes this long I could imagine possibly loosing out on a perfect home. But I don’t know if this is a normal time to hear back. How long do agents usually take to respond? Thanks?

That’s way too long. Our realtor usually got back to us that day. The next day at the latest.
It only takes a day or 2 for a house to go from active to pending sometimes.

@FutureMrsMeinhardt: ANY business should respond within 24 hours IMO. Our realtor was a bit on the slow side, but he would TEXT, not professional to me. Take it as a sign and find someone else.

Agree with PP – almost 1 week is way too long to hear back. You need to follow up with the realtor or look for a new one. Mine would usually respond the same day. I don’t think we ever had to wait longer than 24 hours for a response from him.

Nonono! Not good! Your agent should really be calling you back within the day, unless you know she’s on vacation or is waiting for an answer from the listing agent or something.

Thank you everyone!!! I was pretty sure that it was strange and I didn’t like it either. But this is my first time to the home buying world so I wasn’t sure. Thank you guys for confirming my thoughts!

Definitely finds someone else. Our first agent was like that and by the time appointments would get set up half the places were no longer available. My husband is nice to a fault and thought my expectations were too high, but I dumped that realtor anyway. Within a few days of working with our next realtor we’d found our house and made an offer. Our house had only been on the market one day when we looked at it and it was priced super competitively, so I know we would have missed out on it with our old realtor. He wouldn’t have gotten us in on time. Things move too fast to have such a long turnaround time.

@FutureMrsMeinhardt: Definitely the same day and if not, then the next for sure!

With the way the market it in LA/San Fran/etc she needs to be getting back to you within the minutes to hours time frame. Multiple days is totally unacceptable. You’ll definitely lose out on houses if you go with such an unresponsive agent. Most properties worth buying here are off the market within 5-7 days. If you spend 3-4 of those waiting on her to look at the home first, you will never be an early enough bidder, and you’ll not get to buy.

I’d say 1 – 2 days tops is normal. We also had a realtor string us along, taking a week or sometimes TWO. We dumped him.
Any longer, and you’re right, the house may close. Our house was up on the market for 4 days before we got it.

Our guy would get us in to see the house the same day usually.
