akm57 :  Whatever you prefer, which best fits your budget, and which works best for how you plan to use the pumpkins.

It’s whatever your preference is.  Mine would be real for home decor, another’s would be fake.  A possible bonus with fake is you can use them again down the road.  If this is DIY wedding decor I might opt for fake because they’d be light weight & you could purchase & design way in advance without worrying about them going soft.

Pumpkins are heavy and even small ones would add up to a lot of weight to lug around for DIY wedding decor.

I would do whatever is cheaper.

I would do fake, because you have a certain time limit before real pumpkins will start to….deflate. Plus you’d have to individually carve and paint each one, or enlist someone to help you. Do they have to be white? Or, could you use those small baby pumpkins and spray paint them white, drawing faces on instead? Those would last longer than the larger pumpkins.

des- :  It would be easier to just buy white pumpkins & skip the spray painting.   She didn’t indicate she intends to carve them.

des- :  she said pumpkins, not jack o lanterns.

I vote real, as long as your wedding occurs when pumpkins are in season. Pumpkins don’t rot quickly, so you don’t have to worry about that.

wildflowerz :   daisy123 :  Saying she wants to use pumpkins as a centerpiece isn’t very specific.  For all I know she’s planning to carve them and use tea light candles in them. Maybe we should allow the OP to clarify exactly what she has in mind.

If you have the room to store them, you can likely get a great buy on some this year during the after season sales. They are already on sale here in Canada as our Thanksgiving is next weekend. If you are using them as a vase, you can put a container inside the fake ones. There are lots of ideas online using white pumpkins.

I probably would go with what ever was cheaper. Most fake pumpkins look pretty good so you could go either way. Or even a mix of them. But like someone else mentioned depends on what you want to do with them. But everything adds up so fast save money where you can.

Personally I would do real because I don’t like to buy styrofoam because of how harmful it is. If you could find uses for fake after the wedding and they wont just end up in the trash, I would like fake would be easier.

We are using real pumpkins for our centrepieces and for stacking randomly around our venue.

I have just bought some polystyrene pumpkins off eBay because I saw a post on Instagram where someone had sprayed them with glitter paint and they looked AWESOME!!
