I read somewhere that the more violent the (morning) sickness, the more strongly attached the foetus, as the hormones are so strong? Dunno how true, sounds like you need all the encouragement you can get right now! Hang in there!

My mom was that sick through both her pregnancies….but she made it through! Hopefully it will get better in the second trimester when the horomones level off!

You don’t say how far along you are, but these symptoms do tend to disappear after the end of the third month.

Some women do continue to have problems further in your pregnancy to the point of needing IV therapy.

Was pregnancy not covered in your nursing training?

Ah, poor girl.  🙁  I had a rough first 20 weeks with morning sickness; I totally understand.  If it’s bad enough, talk to your doctor about prescription anti-nausea medicine.  I was on Zofran, and while I still puked a lot and felt sick, it helped me function on a daily basis.  There’s other things you can try too, like ginger, SeaBands, extra vitamin B, etc…  Otherwise, it’s unfortunately something you just have to power through.  If you’re in the second month, it should get better soon; most people start to feel good in the 2 trimester.  Hopefully, the hot flashes will also get better as the weather starts to cool down.

Hang in there!  It’ll be better soon.

Snarky comments sometimes make me violently ill.

I had really bad morning sickness, so bad that i had to stop eating at our college cafeteria. Thankfully it tapered off towards the fourth month or so. After that all the way to about the end of 6 months i felt wonderful! I looked cute as heck too, which probably helped. As for being hot, i remember getting hot alot but it just got worse during my seventh and eight month because it was Aug/Sept in Alabama so i mostly remember being that miserable! It gets better, i promise:)..

Make sure you stay hydrated. Skip caffeine and keep water/ gatorade with you. Take small sips of water constantly. If it continues, contact your physician, s/he  will be able to give a prescription for nausea that comes in both pill and liquid form.

Do you think you can wear a mask? That might block some of the smells from patients. I work for an OBGYN and we have some patients who desperately need a shower and sometimes they smell like a grease..so yea i totally get you.

Hope you feel better!

I apologize if I offended you.

My question wasn’t meant to be snarky. I am also a nurse and I wasn’t sure if pregnancy was covered in nurses’ training in the British Isles where they tend to use midwives more than we do for care during pregnancy and delivery.

No need for attacks or defensiveness- it was an honest question.

That’s the trouble with written communication- no tone of voice or body language to help people understand.

I feel for you, and why do they call it ‘morning’ sickness?!

Have you tried things like ginger of vit b12 losenges to help steady your stomach? There’s also a safe anti-nausea drug called diclectic {I’m in Canada, so not sure if it’s the same where you are} you could ask your gp about that many ladies swear by!

The tired + hot thing, oh yeah! I’m just over 4 months now and the tired is going away, but the hot… ugh! It’s no fun. :S
