@Sugaree:  I think you should pick the date you want.  In the grand scheme of things, the $220 isn’t a terribly huge increase, even if it is annoying.  I also think that unless you’re doing the wedding in early December, it gets frustrating to people because you’re getting into holiday season when everyone is already really busy.  Have you booked other vendors yet?  Many may be booked with holiday parties already…

I agree the price increase makes things less than ideal, but I personally wouldnt mind going $220 over my total budget if it means I get the venue and the date I really want.  Of course if you have this attitude with EVERYTHING, you would end up going way over budget LOL.  But uyou sound like you have a good head on your shoulders and wouldnt carry over the overspending into other areas.

I like the January date — something for everyone to look forward to after the holidays, when everything has kind of calmed down a little bit.

Heh, yeah, my reception venue’s minimums went up for $2500 for 2013. Thankfully the coordinator caved really quickly when I told her that the prices I was given said $xxxx minimum, not $xxxx + 2500, and nowhere in there did it say that that was for 2012, not 2013.
