Why not come visit Canada? The Niagara region is beautiful and has lots of wineries if you’re into that sort of thing and not planning on going right after your wedding (and therefore in winter).

Toronto is also a tourist attraction. It has shopping and stuff like that.

I think I need more info. When are you thinking of going? If you’re going in winter, do you like any winter activities?

you could def. do a tropical all inclusive for under 3k too. Or I would go to Tennesee. It’s so pretty and lots to do!

In December, I’d suggest heading south.  What about driving down to DC?  (I have no idea how long this would take, I’m envisioning it as a relax road trip.)  If you have a week and take 2 days to drive down & back each way, you have 3 in DC itself.  A hotel would be maybe a couple hundred a night, leaving plenty of $$ for good eating, shopping, museum visiting, etc.

Do you plan to go right after your wedding? Do you celebrate Christmas and want to be back for it? Or leave after it?

Planning for January may save you a ton because of your wedding is in a popular travel time (read expensive)

I’d look for a cheap cruise deal! In January if possible because prices are way lower then.

You could also consider Frankenmuth, MI. I imagine that it would be very pretty around Christmas.

@agirlwithdreams7: DC is really pretty at Christmas. If you like walking around, though, take a good map. The capitol area is pretty desolate at night that time of year, and it’s easy to wander into crappier neighborhoods. It’s easily avoided, though!

There are tons of free museums, and some excellent ones that do charge admission.

@agirlwithdreams7: Be careful planning a driving trip to the DC area from OH in December. I drive that route all the time and it can get nasty up on the mountain roads even when it’s fine on either end.

Have you thought about the FL Keys? Or Miami? That is if you’re up for getting out of the cold OH winter 🙂

@agirlwithdreams7: Instead of DC, I would suggest Old Town Alexandria.  They have a haunted ghost tour, and they decorate beautifully for Christmas starting in November.  There is TONS to do: shopping, dining, sight-seeing… and its going to be less expensive than staying in DC.

This is what the main street looks like at night, very romantic:
