Are you going to the shower?  if so – take the gift WITH you.

ETA: 30-50 is perfectly reasonable for a shower gift.

@octohands:  I would ship it only if you weren’t able to attend the shower, that’s what people did for my bridal shower.

And yes $30-50 is totally reasonable IMO.

If I were attending the shower, I would have the gift shipped to me, wrap it and take it with me. Gift giving is the while point of a shower.

If you cannot attend, I would have it gift wrapped and shipped to her.

I would send it to the mommy-to-be’s house-it’s a pain to try to pack all the gifts into the car afterwards.

The $$ questions depends on a lot of factors: how close you are, your area, etc…but generally speaking I’d say $50 is certainly reasonable.

Wrap it and take it – absolutely!  The option to ship to the mommy-to-be is for BIG gifts that might be troublesome wrapping and sticking in a car and for people who cannot attend but wish to send a gift.

30 – 50 for a cousins wife is totally appropriate.

@octohands:  I guess it depends on how close you are to your cousin and his wife.  For people I’m close to, I usually find out what they are eyeing on their registry and get that.  But, for more aquaintance type people (regardless of relation), I’ll usually spend 30-50 – depending on what ‘grabs’ me on their registry.

You also need to take in to account what you can afford and what your financial position is… that will really tell you how much to spend, more than anything!  When I’ve been in tight financial times, I’ve given a $20 shower gift before and felt good about giving it because it was the most generous thing I could do….

I think $50 is more than reasonable to spend on a gift.  Hopefully their registry has a wide range of prices!

The only reason I would ship a gift instead of bringing it to the party is if it is out of town.  (Or like you said, really heavy/awkward to carry around) In my experience, most mommies to be open gifts at the shower, so you’d want to bring your present with you.  Unless she has to travel and carting gifts around would be difficult for her.  If you’re unsure, I’d ask your friend what her preference is

I think that would be a great present!  Especially with the onesie cupcake, I think that is super cute.  I love pinterest!!

A $30-$50 gift is very reasonable.

As for the shipping thing… ARGH, for the first baby shower I ever went to I shipped the present (per request). Then I showed up, and everyone had brought gifts anyway. Then they were opening the gifts and thanking everyone in person. It was so embarrassing, because it really looked like I had just showed up without a gift. The second shower I went to, I shipped one gift from the registry (once again, per request) and then I brought a pair of small baby socks I crocheted myself. I figured they took no space and I just didn’t want to show up to another shower empty handed.
