Did they explain WHY they can’t take it in anymore? Honestly, I’d probably just take it elsewhere.

That didn’t happen to me in alterations – yes, the dress had to be taken in multiple times, but never once was I told that they could no longer take it in. I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t give you an explanation as to why. My understanding is that most dresses can be successfully taken in by 2-4 dress sizes. Have you exceeded that?

With regard to the bustle – if the buttons will inevitably be visible, why not ask them to do rhinestones or pearl buttons instead? Otherwise, I might ask them to do hook & eye rather than buttons which are harder to spot with the naked eye.

I don’t know where in MA you are, but I got my dress/alterations in Boston. I know a great place if you end up wanting a second opinion on the dress!

I think it is common. Throw a “polite” hissy fit and make them fix it. Unacceptable if you’ve paid that much!

I just looked at the pictures you posted from your first fitting and the dress looks fabulous on you!! It looks like it fits like a glove. Did they alter it a lot since the first fitting to now? Because in those pictures it doesn’t look like any more work was needed!

@[email protected]:  You are tiny (I too looked at your first fitting photos)! Size 10 seems a bit large, but perhaps the designs run small? Paying what you have paid for the alterations means that they should give you the gown that you want – force them to tell you why they can’t take it in more. I would think they could take the gown in a couple dress sizes for you without losing the shape and integrity of the design. If they won’t – I would ask for my some of my money back and go somewhere else.

I understand her point that it is hard to replicate the exact look of the dress being clamped because they are taking it in from the side, but any good tailor/seamstress worth her salt should be able to make a gown fit like a glove. Especially with someone with such a perfect figure!

@[email protected]:  You can only take a dress in along seams and you cannot get a fit like with clamps, but they should be able to get you a really good fit since that dress doesn’t have a lot of embellishment.

Yes, they can redo the bustle. Ask for an underbustle, either french or ballroom.

It can’t be taken in any more because the fabric is cut on the bias. Taking it in more would case the fabric to stretch diagonally, giving awful (and multiple) lines across the pubic bone area. It will also cause the zipper to be “wavy”.

I’m sorry, they ordered you a dress that was 2 sizes larger than your largest measurement? AND you’ve paid $600 for alterations? Wow.  How much was the dress??

hmm you don’t look like a 37 hip in the pics!  did you measure yourself or did they?

are you getting the alterations done at the bridal shop where you purchased the gown?  ive read that a lot of times they will try to make a bride order a bigger size so they can make more money on alterations.

i hope it works out for you!  and yes i would throw another hissy fit if they dont fix it especially if they told you to order that size.
