I think it depends on where you are.

I got quotes ranging from $700-1000 for four hours. I did get a quote for $2K from a very highly rated DJ.

I agree, I think that is really high.  Even for the Pros it’s like $500 and ones that I have worked with during photography jobs at events are less than $1000 for about 4-5 hours.  BUT maybe that’s a reasonable price for your area.  I would look around at LOTS of DJs in your area that way you can compare and better negotiate if that is a little high.

I don’t think it is high. I live in Boston, and that is just how big city pricing is.  I sucks, but it is what it is!

I am only a few hours from you in the Quad Cities, but it seems that they are running around 600.00-900.00 around here, some even include all the lighting and extras.

If that’s about normal, then maybe you should consider travel fees?  I’d say if one charges less, but includes more (like lighting), then look at their travel fees.  It might still be cheaper (and I’m all for saving money where I can!).

It is not high. I booked one of the BEST djs around here and am paying $1500 for 5 hrs and all others I saw were $1000 or more. $2200 the highest

We’re spending $900 on 5 hours in a much smaller city. Some of the better DJs charge over $1500 here. I don’t think your quote is that high given the COL in Chicago.

Depends on your city. We were getting quotes for $1100-$2000 in the DC area…

I’m sure it depends on the area. For us, in Nashville, we are paying $600 for 4 hours (lighting and extra hours would have cost more). I would look up prices for a couple more in your area just to be sure it’s not too high, but if you love him and it’s in the realm of reasonable – then go for it!

It is quite high. My DJ is 1500 + we are getting lighting and a bunch of other services from her so our overall bill is 2130 for the DJ. It depends what quality DJ you are looking for.
