How many hours is it for?

Also, I really wanted a DJ who would take requests. I know that they know best what will be people dancing, but at the same time if someone makes a request they are likely to go out and dance to that request.

I’m paying my DJ $900 for 6 hours of music and uplighting. He said we can make requests, have a must play list, and have a no play list.

that sounds reasonble, and it does look like you mention a “no play” list. My DJ has me give a list of 10 MUST play and 10 DO NOT play songs.

@newcitylights:  In my region that’s a pretty good price. Can you just put the songs that you find the cheesiest on the “no play” list and then let him pick from there?

In my area thats a very good price.  We have a DJ and an MC for 5 hours and only get to choose 25 songs to fit into a must play/please play/do not play list.  I would prefer to have more choices, but we’ve used him before and he did a great job so I have to trust him.  Our package is $1,300.

We are paying $1195 for 5 hours (plus $100 for ceremony and $100 for cocktail hour music for a total of 7 hours) for our DJ. He gives us complete control though ~ we could literally choose every single song to be played if we wanted to. We can also give him a list of artists that we like and he will choose songs that are in the same genre that he knows we will like.

@newcitylights: Sounds reasonable. We’re right around $800 in Philly, but only 5 hours + 1 hr set up.

That’s a good price!  We’ve got our DJ for $650 + $75 for any additional hours.  He won’t be covering the ceremony though, which I’m sort of freaking out about!

That sounds really reasonable, but if they seem at all like they won’t accommodate your choices or preferences, it’s not worth the cheaper price!

That sounds good to me. My DJ is 1450 (for five hours)! I guess it’s because he’s well-known in the area, but still, that’s a hefty price to pay. But he’s also acting as a coordinator too, along with the day-of coordinator, so that relieves some of the stress I have.

Dude, I’m SHOCKED at these prices! Ours is $200, for the whole event, and takes complete requests and whatever we ask, and will be the MC (announce certain dances, cake cutting, couple coming in, etc)
