I am recently engaged and my fiancé and I would like to get married in Pittsburgh in the fall. We really would like to be able to choose our own food. With the budget we put together we are trying to get a venue for $1,000 that would allow for 100-150 guests.
I am new to the Pittsburgh area so I would really appreciate any local secrets.

Congratulations! I am a Pittsburgh bee as well. What kind of venue are you looking for? Are you having an outdoor wedding? Most of the outdoor venues in the area that I can think of would cost more than $1,000. North of the city there is a venue called the Succop Conservancy which is a little more budget friendly if you are looking for an outdoor venue. If you are having an indoor reception, the Pittsburgh Opera House might appeal to you.

The county parks https://apm.activecommunities.com/alleghenyparks/Reserve_Options have several buildings available for $200-400 – you arrange your own food and alcohol. Some have tables and chairs, some are a bit problematic in that department. The two most popular are probably North Park Lodge http://forums.theknot.com/discussion/963112/if-you-had-or-are-having-your-wedding-reception-at-the-north-park-lodge and Buffalo Inn in South Park. http://www.aboccasiondesign.com/#!Sweet-and-Romantic-Starry-Night-Wedding/c1lw2/561c43ae0cf2c6c643710c07
The City of Pittsburgh Parks also have some nice buildings. http://thebudgetsavvybride.com/finding-venue/
Caterers’ websites often have tabs for venues – places where you can arrange your own food.
