I’m looking to spend around $1500-2000 on our Friday night rehearsal dinner for around 50 people (minimum), but am struggling to find a place in NYC. We’re getting married in Tribeca the following night so someplace downtown would be great but we’re open to anything!

I have no idea what the pricing is like, but i went to Bar Artisanal down there recently and thought it was a nice space. i know they do private parties and could accommodate your size.
Another place i loved was Capsuoto Freres, which i believe also accommodates larger parties. It’s French though, so it depends on your personal taste. Also don’t know if it is within your budget.
Finally, i haven’t been, but was supposed to go to Locanda Verde recently, and I thought the menu looked really good. Can’t vouch for it though.
Hope that helps – sorry, don’t know the Tribeca area ALL that well, that’s about the extent of what i know down there!

I’m doing La Mela in Little Italy – $35 a person for a ton of food!

So my FH and I were having the exact same problem, since we are paying for the entire weekend and most of the guests are from out of town. We ended up at Heartland Brewery in Times Square. I am more of a meatpacking girl but quickly realized that my guests would never appreciate an upscale NYC rehearsal dinner for what it would cost so we downscaled and are so happy! The food is good and priced great for 3 courses at 32.00 a pp! Plus you can opt for a running tab rather then a package and in the end whichever is cheaper, they give you the better price. They have several locations in the city and most have private rooms that you can even bring in your own ipod for music and have a slide show if you want. Overall, it was one of the easiest decisions we made yet!

I’m getting married in Tribeca also and my rehearsal dinner is at Trattoria Cinque on Greenwich St. I think the prices are reasonable though I don’t know an exact amount.
I’d say your best best is to find a restaurant that has a private area. Others will need to close the restaurant for the night making it very pricey.
