- Wedding: October 2015
I just got my professional pictures back and I couldn’t be more pleased! So since you all have provided such great advice to me throughout the planning process I thought I would share a few (ok a lot) of my professional pics. We got married on 10/10/15 at the Garrison at Fort Benjamin State Park (Indianapolis area brides, check this place out. Hidden gem), and it turned out to literally be a perfect day – 70 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, and every vendor was on point. There were some minor snafus (my train got stepped on 45 mins into the reception, and the bustle broke so I had to keep getting safety pinned all night, and my cousin brought her 3 year old granddaughter even after we explicitly told her we didn’t want to have kids at the wedding), but every wedding has those couple little things that go wrong, and if those were the worst, that is fine with me. Also, ladies, do yourselves a favor – HIRE PLANNERS. Find the money in your budget. It was without a doubt the absolute best money we spent on the wedding. We were relaxed, we got everything done ahead of time, everything flowed smoothly the day of. We didn’t have to worry about logistics at all, and it was such a load off.
So, like I said, the venue is at a state park that is a decommissioned army base, so they turned the officer’s homes into rentable houses for multiple guests. My parents got one for the bridal party to get ready in and then my friends got one for the after party/so they wouldn’t have to worry about driving:
My dress in all its beaded tulle glory
Hair and makeup almost done! Pro tip – if you find your airbrush makeup feels super cakey or breaks apart on your skin, you may be using the wrong one for your skin type. I have combo/oily skin so silicone-based airbrush foundation looked..like shit. Water-based was the way to go and it was light and perfect all freaking day. I had to do two trials but I am so glad I did!
My favorite picture from our first look (totally recommend this by the way. Such a good bonding time with the bridal party and the photographer, and we were SO relaxed because we had like 3 hours scheduled for bridal party photos)
I just love this super candid pic of me and my bridesmaids:
The actual venue. It overlooks a state park and a golf course, so we had golfers congratulating us all day:
A pic from the ceremony, I think this is juuuust before the kiss, but LOOK AT THAT BACKGROUND. Perfect fall day. And isn’t our arch just lovely. It’s iron and we had them put hydrangea in it. I wanted to steal it.
Reception set up:
The cake! We had chocolate cake with raspberry mousse on the bottom tier, strawberry lemonade cake with lemon mousse on the middle tier, and the winner was totally the caramel apple cake with a carmelly-cream cheese mousse on the top tier. Definitely going to have to order that for the anniversary! Also, those totally don’t look like sugar flowers, but they were!
First dance. We chose “Let It Be Me” by the Everly Brothers. All of our special dances were to old classes. Short, sweet, short.
Lastly, prior to dinner, we got pulled out to get some magic hour shots. Swoon. I love these. The first one for THAT VIEW. The second one might be my favorite picture out of all of them.
Believe me when I tell you, everything they tell you is true! It goes SO fast. It felt like I blinked and we were on the plane to our honeymoon! Now I need to get a hobby since I’m no longer planning a wedding, lol!
