- Wedding: September 2013
Well I’m official Mrs. AK now! We got back from our honeymoon in sunny Mexico yesterday so I decided to share a recap and some photos with you guys!
A cliché as it sounds, our wedding day really did turn out perfectly! The main reason we picked our venue was because we wanted to be married under the beautiful, huge oak tree in the farms lawn, so we were both pretty bummed when all the weather channels and websites forecasted 90% chance of rain and possible thunder storms and hail on our big day. We bought a tent and started to think of alternatives for the ceremony and the lawn games we had planned. I went out a bought 10 regular umbrellas for guests as well as clear and pink bubble umbrellas for us girls and a silver and clear one for the groom. After a couple freak out sessions, I came to the conclusion that it WAS going to rain on our wedding day and that it would be fine. That we would get married under the pavilion surrounded by the people we love the most in the world and that I would be marring my best friend. The thing that truly matters.
The morning of I woke up to cloudy skies but no rain. The girls and I drove up to the wedding venue and starting setting up before hair and makeup was to start. Still no rain! At this point we decided to make a game time decision and wait about an hour before the ceremony was to start before deciding if we would hold it outside like we planned or under the pavilion. Halfway through getting hair and makeup done, the rain started. I was a little disappointed but nothing was going to ruin my day!
By the time we were ready to do the first look, the rain actually stopped! We were able to do our first look, exchange gifts, and take pictures outside before retreated back to the bridal parlor and grooms quarters before the ceremony. And I swear it seemed like the clouds parted and sun started to shine as I walked down the aisle! The ceremony was so beautiful and emotional as we shared our personal wedding vows and participated in a tree planting ceremony. After the ceremony, we signed our marriage certificate, took a couple pictures, and then the rain started pouring! It rained for about a half an hour so all of our bridal party pictures had to be taken inside or under umbrellas but the rain backed off half way through the cocktail hour so people were actually able to enjoy the lawn games we worked so hard on.
The rest of the night went by like a blur. It was so rewarding to see all our hard work finally put into action. About 95% of everything was DIY: lace and burlap table runners, twine/burlap/lace vases, fabric ribbon garland for the aisle, fabric ribbon backdrop for the dance floor, lace embroidery hoops, strawberry jam favors, guest quilt, bridal party bouquets, boutonnieres for the groomsmen and grandmothers, corsages for the mothers, etc.
We had such a good time enjoying the games, music, food, desserts, and most of all, all the laughter and love with our family and friends!
And a few of the teaser pictures from our AMAZING wedding photogrpher Megan Love! I would highly recommend Megan Love Photography for anyone in the Northwest!
