- Wedding: October 2010
This is going to be long and will come in quite a few editions, so bear with me as I work to get them all put into threads! I wrote the recap shortly after the wedding and while I’ve been freely sharing pictures on the SMY threads, it took me this long to finally get everything together and get my pictures lined up with my recap story! Only 10 months… not too bad right? I’ll continue the recap story with each relevant section (except the men! I should probably pester my husband for his thoughts during this, I pretty much only know that he was worried because he knew I was upset – other then that he’s a guy and it took 10 mins for him to get ready. lol), so without further adieu, here’s part 1 of my recap story and photos:
Our 2nd (and final) wedding occured on a day that started out somewhat gloomy with random mist sprinkles. That week had been filled with finishing projects, ironing out last minute details, and spending time with family and friends. It was hectic, but so much fun!
The morning of the wedding was SUPPOSED to start at 7am with my hair/makeup artist showing up to start setting my curls. By 715am, still no artist, so I called her. She was either still asleep or just waking up, but either way, she had it in her head that my wedding was on Saturday not Friday, and she had plans she couldn’t get out of for Friday. She says she recalls talking about it being Saturday and mentioning seeing me Saturday in the call she made to me on Thursday, but ALL of our emails said FRIDAY October 15th and I reminded her of that. In the end, what was done was done, and I told her I would figure it out and in a fit of anger, hung up on her. I think I was somewhat justified in that though… lol
My mom, wedding planner, photographer, and I all spent most of the next 2 hours trying to arrange another hair and makeup person for us all. At about quarter to 9am, my mom got a hold of and enlisted the aid of a lady that she had used recently that she really liked by the name of Katie (I might be spelling this wrong, but I don’t have my mom awake to ask right now lol the rest I have business cards for or found the names of on their website) at Jeffrey Michaels Salon. There are not enough words to say how awesome the people ALL of them at this salon are! From the moment my mom got a hold of Katie, she took control of the situation and told my mom to have me in there at 9am and then Katie started calling around to make sure that she had the best people working on my hair that she could get!
Once I got into the salon, the owner (or maybe manager) David Easton found out that I didn’t have a make up artist yet either (and saw me start tearing up again) and promptly started gathering names and numbers from the other salon team members. It turned out that one of the other ladies that works there is both hair and make up artist and she was able to come in early to do my makeup and my MOH’s hair and makeup!
I started off my time at the salon with Emily Kenny who did an absolutely AMAZING job recreating the look I had liked so much in my hair trial with the other lady. She is the sweetest person and so much fun to chat with as well! She listened carefully to anything I asked or pointed out and just did a superb job. Will, my photographer was there capturing everything, so I’m sure I’ll have a pic or 2 with her in it, and definitely a LOT of them with the progression of my hair. Did I mention that I LOVED my hair?!?
At 10:15am or so, my Maid/Matron of Honor showed up at the salon (I couldn’t find her number anywhere and had to rely on a facebook message to her and as a last resort, the fact that I knew someone would be at my house when she showed up and could let her know what was happening and get her over to the salon) and minutes after she got there, Brittany Durlach (who was to do both of our make-up and my MOH’s hair) showed up. Carrie got her hair styled while mine was being finished and then it was my turn for makeup. In talking to Brittany (who also did a FANTASTIC job on my makeup by the way) I found out that she had been scheduled to have an appointment at 1030am but due to having a car breakdown, and sharing one with other family members, she had changed that appointment to 1pm because she couldn’t get the car until then. When the salon had called her that morning, she said yes to coming in early for me and my Maid/Matron of Honor and then promptly called around until she could find someone who could pick her up and bring her in! I should have pics of her and her work on both Carrie and myself as well.
These ladies (and gentleman!) in the salon made my morning! I was in shock when I realized that my scheduled hair/makeup person had gotten the dates wrong and wasn’t going to be able to make it there, but these people went well out of their way to make a very upset and trying not to cry bride back into a happy smiling bride and I think they ended up doing a better job then I might have gotten otherwise!
Kelly, my SIL not to mention a bridesmaid, had started doing her own hair and makeup (as well as my niece’s) once she got to my house at 730am and found out what was going on. She held down the fort at my house with my dad while my mom was at the salon with me and I am so thankful that she was able to jump right in and take care of her own hair/makeup! She also helped calm me down a bit and was a shoulder for me to cry on when my emotions got the best of me. I might add that she looked amazing!!
I have to make a shout out to my photographer Will as well. The moment my wedding planner Erin text messaged him to let him know about the situation, he called me to find out how I was doing, ask what I would prefer he did (he was supposed to show up at my house at 830 to start taking pictures of us getting ready), and to let me know he was calling everyone under the sun to find someone to help out with the situation. He got to the salon about 915-930am to start taking pictures and while he was, he got at least 4 phone calls from makeup artists asking if we still needed help!!
Oh and if making all of those calls wasn’t enough, having him volunteer to come to my house at 830 am that morning was comPLETELY bonus time! My contract with him was for 6 hours and he was there from 915ish am until after 4pm!!! AND then he was at the reception from 4pm until something like 9pm!! He made a huge impression on my Maid/Matron of Honor who has now talked to him about taking some family photos with him and is passing on his name and number to a mutual friend of ours who is getting married next year! If my wedding photos come out anything close to the same caliber as the engagement pics, then he will have not only fulfilled but exceeded all of my hopes and wishes for my wedding photography. I’ve seen a few of the pics he took in his viewfinder, and I think that there are going to be ALOT of amazing pics, so I couldn’t be more happy with him!
