Hello Ladies! It seems like a lot of you have had trouble getting married outside your home church, and I’m wondering if there are steps I can start taking to prevent that problem. Here’s my situation, sorry if it’s lengthy:
SO and I are both members of the same church, and have been for about 1 year. We were both born and raised Catholic, have all our sacraments, etc. But, after college we hadn’t ever ‘joined’ a church formally until we started dating.
Between traveling frequently, going to other nearby churches or to our families’ churches, and just being less than perfect and skipping mass, we’ve probably attended this parish on average once every 6-8 weeks. We are planning to get engaged this year, and want to get married next fall or winter. Since we know that getting married in the Catholic church can have its difficulties, we are trying to make a point to attend mass more regularly at our home parish, instead of whichever local church has a mass time that works for us that week. We are also making a point to bring our envelopes so there is a record of our attendence and donations.
If we were getting married at our home church, I’d think that would be enough. However, we want to get married out of town. We are worried that we will have trouble finding a church in the other city to marry us. We are also worried that the priests don’t know us since it’s a large church, and won’t be comfortable writing us a reccomendation.
Any words of advice?
