I registered at BB&B in December 2011 and I did have someone with me the entire time. I actually preferred it, she knew the store in and out, but she also wasn’t obnoxious. You can add and delete things from your registry online, so that’s an option too. I don’t know if they’ll let you go around by yourself. You can certainly call the registry department at the BB&B, but they may tell you it’s against their policy to let you do it yourself. If that’s the case, your only option for doing it alone is online.

By the way, I also registered at Crate & Barrel. They let you do it by yourself there, and it was a nightmare. At first the little scanner wouldn’t work. Then when it finally did, I went around and just snapped up all the things we wanted. When I came back to the front to try and upload the list into the machine, it erased everything I had registered for. I had to go back and do it all again. I much prefer to have someone with me who can take care of using the little device, especially since I was in BB&B registering for 5 hours and I wouldn’t be able to go back and do that all again.

We registered in 2011 and had a consultant with us for the most part. I told him we were pretty independent, and he handed over the scanner.

Don’t forget that you can make changes to your registry online, too– super easy and avoids the whole issue.

When we registered the consultant tried to go with us but I told her that we knew what we needed and if we had any questions we’d find her and ask.  She left us alone.  They try to go with you to get you to register for more and more expensive things.  So when you go back in, politely and firmly decline their offer to help.

I registered last spring, and they asked us if we wanted assistance, and we said no. We had also started our registry online beforehand, so we didn’t really have to set anything up at the store. I totally agree with you, I didn’t want the store employee breathing down my neck while we tried to pick things out. Someone had told me to start the registry online first and they would be more likely to leave you alone.

My Fiance and I registered this past November with an obnoxious consultant.  We went to a different store a few weeks later and told them that we had already completed most of our registry but that we needed a scanner to just add a few more things.  They had no problem with that.

When Fiance and I first set up the registry, we had the super-annoying employee show us around the ENTIRE store first to explain what people typically register for.  After that, we were left alone to scan by ourselves (though he checked in a few times), and then had to sit through his completion-plan routine.

It was annoying, but I appreciated being able to touch/feel/see some of the items.  I’ve since changed the registry a lot online, but it was helpful to go into the store first.

We went in Nov 2012, and didn’t have anyone walk around with us. They’d come up to us occassionally, see if we needed any help or had any questions.. other than that they left us alone.

When I registered last summer, the consultant tried to follow us around, and my Mother-In-Law told her to get lost.  When she didn’t, we told the manager we were quite capable of using the scanner and didn’t need her to follow us around.  You just have to be a little pushy.  They work on commission, so you need to be clear that you don’t want them there, otherwise they will follow you to get you to add every high-priced item in the store.

The same thing happened to me.  We registered in Dec 2012 and the employee was with us the entire time.  We were ao frustrated.  We ended up going home and registering online.  We had taken everything off the original registry except about 5 things.  The consultant wanted us to register for really pricey stuff that no one in my family would have been able to afford.  Stuff that we wouldn’t have even bought for ourselves.

I registered online first to avoid the consultant and their spill. They tried it on me but I made it very clear that I did not want somebody hassling me the entire time. I had registered at three different places anyway including BB&B. They saw my registry and mentioned, “Do you realize that you didn’t register for XX?” My response was that I had already registered for it at XX. Be firm!!!

@soontobe-mrsp:  We had a consultant with us most of our time registering, but she was super sweet and since Fiance and I are cut ups, we had fun with her ๐Ÿ™‚  About halfway through, though, we started getting grumpy and decided to break for lunch.  When we came back, we asked if we could just wrap it up ourselves and she was totally cool with it.  I’d say it just depends on the consultant, but if they try to tell you that they have to be with you, that’s not true.  I’m sorry you feel like your experience was ruined ๐Ÿ™ but try not to stress over it too much…it’s just a little thing, really ๐Ÿ™‚

We registered there for our housewarming about two months ago and the consultant definitely did not walk around with us. That seems like a waste of time on their part, and really pushy.

Just wanted to mention also, that while BB&B has great stuff in store they were a nightmare for me to deal with as far as shipping goes. They also repeatedly sent me damaged goods and their excuse was “that must’ve been all they had.” I currently have two cracked/scratched (and seemingly touch up-painted) key hooks. It took me a month to finally receive my shower curtain and ring set because they forgot to send it with the key hooks, then they specify that the delivery service (UPS/Fedex) is not allowed to hold your packages for pickup. I live in an apartment building and am not home at 2:30 in the afternoon! It’s nuts. I finally had to have the stuff shipped to my work (big hassle taking the train home.)

I was pretty excited to register with them for my wedding, but now they can *forget* that!

We registered in February 2013, and had this happen to us. The guy also held the scanner for a good oprtion of the time, which made my Fiance upset since he wanted to scan. After awhile it became clear to him that we knew what we wanted and he left us alone. I felt like we registered for less because I didn’t want to bother him, their loss not ours!
