I am new to this group. I my bf of several years proposed to me at my 40th birthday party on 10/15/16. It was so beautiful and such a surprise. The ring is beaufiul and more than I envisioned in my head. We were going to try to have a October 2017 wedding but that just seemed very stressful with all that we currently have going on. So now we are planning on August 2018. We decided to focus on the big things one at time so as not to overwhelm ourselves nor stress too much as we want to enjoy every step of the process. We are planning on having an enagement party for close family and close friends that we will finance ourselves for the most part. Any suggestions on pacing? We are going to tour venues soon because we want to secure a place by January 2017. Is that too soon? Thanks all

Congratulations and welcome!!
I don’t think it is too soon to look for venues – I’d look for a photographer about now also.

I booked my venue June 2016 for a Sept 2017 wedding and photographer shortly after!

Congratulations! I would start looking soon. We got engaged in January of this year and are planning an Oct 2017 wedding. I booked both the photographer and venue in February. I was surprised that we got one of the last dates our venue had for Fall 2017!

Congrats!!! I agree with the previous posters, get a venue and photographer as soon as you can (without making a hasty decision!) 🙂

Definitely get the venue first. We got engaged in September and we’re getting married April 2017. We were able to get the venue that was our first choice only because there was a cancellation (we had to have a Saturday) and I was shocked at how many venues were all booked up for Saturdays next year.
Welcome and good luck!
