I’ve been lurking for a bit and just finally joined! We got engaged a few weeks ago, so I’m looking forward to posting here!
We actually met on match.com in June 2008. Been inseperable pretty much since the 2nd date. He moved into my itty bitty apartment in July, got a bigger place in January, went ring shopping Valentines Day weekend.
We went to Costa Rica in early March for 10 days. I wasn’t expecting a proposal, because the jeweler told me it would be 4-6 weeks before the ring came in after he ordered it. I was convinced he was going to propose during a weekend trip next month. I knew he had ordered the ring though, and we actually booked a venue (seriously) because we loved it and got a great deal on it. People thought it was hilarious that we were getting married next year, but not engaged yet.
Well, turns out he ended up getting the ring in 4 days, brought the ring to Costa Rica, and set up a private ATV tour to a waterfall, complete with a bottle of wine waiting at the top. We got engaged in front of the waterfall in the town of Gamalotillo, Costa Rica (you probably won’t even find it on a map–it’s that small). I was so surprised! Our guide videotaped the whole thing from about 20 ft away–you can’t hear the audio, but the video is great.
Since we were out of the country, it was really expensive to call back to ths states but I had texting! We were so far out in the country that my phone wouldn’t work! I couldn’t tell anyone for HOURS. That was torture 🙂 BUT, we got back to our condo and I texted away. We had another week to enjoy being engaged in CR..it was wonderful 🙂
So we’re getting married February 19 in Austin! I picked out the ring, he picked out the diamond. I like very simple since I have a small hang, but I’ve gotten 2 compliments from completely random people about how much it sparkles. Love it 🙂

Welcome! Yaay for proposals out of the country! Were you totally shocked?! My Fiance proposed in Ireland and my 1st thought was – Wait, how’d you get that trough customs without me knowing?!? LOL

Welcome! What an awesome proposal.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the welcome!
@Darcy–yes I was shocked! If I thought he had been able to get the ring in time, I would have suspected it. The jewelers timeline was what made me not even suspect it! Fiance and my dad had a long talk about getting it to CR and through customs, but he had no issues at all! He hid the ring in a fishing lure container that was in his carry on, so even if I had gotten in there I would have never opened it 🙂 Foreign country proposals are pretty cool! I did have to ask security if I could wear the ring through the metal detector on the way back–I had no idea!

sure…it’s an ikuma canadian diamond from ben bridge jewelers. it’s a 1.03kt, e color, VS2, ideal cut diamond.
i love the canadian diamonds 🙂 i had the diamond reset lower last week and when the jeweler pulled it out of its container to give it back to me, she even stopped and looked at it and was like “woah..that’s a nice diamond”. i like hearing things like that!
here is another photo of it, from our engagement photo session:
