I know we definatley want to have an “after party” after our reception, as the reception at the venue we chose will end at 10pm- and we have quite a few friends who love to party! I love our ceremony/reception venue- it is gorgeous! But, it is about 25 min from where we live and where our favorite local bar is located. If we hired a shuttle bus to transport guests who wish to attend the after party (probably around 50 or so out of our 170 guests), is 25 min away to the after party location too far?
I wasn’t sure if this was too far, but it is closer to many of our guests’ homes (I was thinking if they wanted to get a cab home from there it would save them a 25 min cab ride) but it also gives us more oppurtuinty to have an awesome after party as it will be private, we will be able to bring dj equiptment (as some of our friends can dj) and we will be able to provide chicken wings and pizza. Our wedding is already open bar, so we would just have a cash bar at the afterparty.
I reallllly want this idea to work out, I just wasn’t sure if 25 min was too far? Even if we are providing the transport?
Thanks in advance for any input!! It is so stressful planning a wedding because while I want it to be everything I want it to be, I don’t want to be rude towards my guests or expect too much from them.

This is exactly what we’re doing. Our wedding reception ends at 10 and we DEFINITELY want to keep going. Our venue (my parent’s house) is about 25 minutes away from where we’re going to party, so we rented a bus to get people there. Bonus of not having to worry about people drinking and driving!

If you hire a shuttle bus from your reception to the bar, then what will happen to those 50 people’s cars that are parked at the reception? They will all have to go back the next day to retrieve them? You may want to make sure that your guests are ok with that first.

it sounds like a fun idea but it is kind of far even if you rent the bus for those closer and then they uber home they still will have to go back the next day and get their cars.

I think 25 minutes is fine. We ended up doing a bar crawl after party that went until around 2:30am, we also hired a shuttle bus so it took people to all the destinations (although we rounded out the trip by having our shuttle drop everyone off at their hotels). I think if it’s moving closer towards everyone’s final destination it’s totally fine.
Oh–and regarding cars, we told guests that if they planned to use the shuttle service to carpool if possible, and just leave vehicles at the venue. Then, everyone arranged to get rides to pick up their cars in the morning.
