Question time! So I’m in the midst of choosing venues and after having to eliminate my #1 for price and size reasons (sniff sniff) I’m back venue hunting and have a couple that I’m focusing on but the bathroom situation in both is kind of funky.
one is a nice steakhouse with a room on the top floor (you take 2 staircases to it) and it has an elevator at the other end. the bathrooms, unfortunately, are downstairs (2 staircases, again, or via elevator). since it’s a restaurant, i’m sure there are ample stalls but would you consider this up and down [and sharing with restaurant customers] to be too annoying/cumbersome?
the second place is a single floor art gallery which has 2 bathrooms. yep… 2. is that enough?? we’re looking at having roughly 75-85 people, and i wouldn’t want people to have to be waiting in line holding it, do you think that’d be a big issue with the amount of people? i don’t know the proper bathroom to guest ratio!

The stair/elevator thing would be annoying to me. And maybe if you have lots of older guests.
My venue had 2 stalls in each women’s/men’s and we had 73 guests. It was fine.

It’s fine, they might wait in line a little bit, but it’s fine, if you like the place, get it

Our venue has 3 stalls in each restroom but my Future Brother-In-Law & FSIL’s wedding last year only had 2 bathrooms and I didnt think it was an issue. Lets just say I may have been drinking heavily that night and visited the restroom quite a few times and never had to wait in line.
EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention that their wedding was similar in size to yours. I think they had 80 or so.

Personally I think both bathroom situations are a non-issue!
Go with the venue you love!

I don’t think that either or an issue. For the first venue: I doubt I’d go to the bathroom more than once so the up/down wouldn’t bother me. It’s not like I’d have to do it 10 times! The second venue, that should be enough bathrooms as most guests will go scattered throughout the reception so it should be fine. Go with the venue you love!

@elliestan: There were only 2 bathrooms (1 men 1 women) in our venue and we had 120 guests plus staff – didnt seem to be an issue
There were 4 stalls total in the womens bathroom but I have no idea how many in the mens! There wasnt a line for the bathroom at all 🙂

I think my venue only had 2 stalls in each mens and womens, and we had about 150 total guests, and it wasn’t a problem. I wouldn’t worry about it. But the up and down stairs thing would drive me crazy as a guest. Plus if some are going to be drinking you would hate for someone to fall down the stairs!

I think the two bathrooms for 75-85 people is just fine. Think about restaurants (or bars) that hold that many people and only have one or two bathrooms… People might wait for a person or two, but that’s it. Good luck deciding! (Although.. I’m quite partial to art gallery venues)

😀 thanks, ladies! as clarification, in the second place they’re both one-stall bathrooms (that actually have showers in it too – cuhrazy!) but I was also under the impression that most people wouldn’t suddenly have the urge to pee at the same time.
Venue porn for your time!

With the first venue, I think it would be kind of a pain to walk two flights of steps and possibly through a restaurant (unless the bathrooms are close to the stairs..but if they are then it sounds like they’d be far from the elevator) to get to the bathroom. And with the second one, I don’t think the number will be a problem at all – we had 120 guests, 2 stalls in each bathroom, and there was never a line. I was in there for several minutes (going to the bathroom took a little longer than usual with my dress, and I also did a makeup check) and only one other person even came in the entire time.

VENUE PORN #2!!! I am in love!!!! Oh the things you could do…..
And going up and down stairs would get old if people are going to be drinking. I think that would be less of an issue if its a dry wedding but everyone is still going to have to go at least once. I guess I would also consider how user friendlly the stairs are- are they nice and open or kinda cramped and awkward and not fun for women in heals?
but oohhhh # 2……..

the stairs (large staircase leading up to a mezzanine, narrow staircase leading to the room) are right next to the bathrooms and the elevator is at the end of the same hallway which is tucked away from the tables so at least it’s out of the way from the rest of the restaurant. the elevator seems fine, but it just seems kinda weird to me to have to keep going up and down just to pee.
@Cant pick a date: i know, right??? i saw pictures of this place and squealed! i really hope it’s “the one”, i’m visiting it tomorrow – i’ve only seen it when it’s closed. it’s ultra modern (even more so in person) and totally not what i had imagined going with, but it really does match our design aesthetic more than the romantic garden (which is beautiful and so popular right now) feel i initially imagined. as long as it’s big enough, and the current road construction will be finished by next year, i think i’ll convince FH that it’s the one!
