Seems about right though.  I would think it many times is a much higher % than that.

No, if anything that sounds low, thought it depends on the size of your guest list. We had 100 guests, and food and drink for them was by far our wedding biggest expense. Probably 2/3 of the total cost.

Hmm, my budget is about $18K for 65 guests. Our food and beverage will cost $5K, plus a venue hire fee of $1500. I don’t know what else is considered ‘reception’ costs, but we also have favours, cake, decorations etc to add to that which would probably be another $3K, which takes it to just over 50% of my budget.

@Pokemon:  That’s really interesting! (mine was actually before 1992 and I’m thinking ahead to my daughters)

p.s. I’ve never seen it done so I can’t directly comment, but I’ve read elsewhere that donations in lieu of favours is sort of frowned on. Also I’ve never been to an Australian wedding with any favours except for a piece of wedding cake. Just a thought.

our venue, furniture (we hired an art gallery, so have to provide our own tables and chairs), food & drink comes to:

£6,880. and our budget is £17k

the rest is going on the church, car, cake, dress, suit, Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, decor, band, photographer, videographer etc.

My food/drink/venue costs is more like 2/3 of the budget.  It’s well into five-figures, and a terrifyingly high number.  :-/
