For bees who are renting a venue only and hiring a separate catering, how much is your reception rental fee plus per person cost (dinner & drink)? Where I am, majority of venues do their own catering and charge anywhere between $80-$160 per person but venue rental is already included if minimum is met (of course minimum flexibility for non-Saturday night events). What I’m trying to ask is which is more costly:
reception venue with rental fee AND hiring a separate caterer (I am not too familiar with this set-up)
reception venue with their own catering and paying only per person
I know some of you will think “it depends” on what food you’ll be serving and how indemand/grand is the venue. Let’s say venue and food are comparablle in both scenarios. I’m trying to see if it will more or less be about the same at the end.

our venue + table/chair rentals + catering (not including cake, etc.) was about $210pp not including taxes, etc. We did it all separately.

how much was the cost per person for catering only?

For catering alone ours is $115 a head, this is in Los Angeles for seated service and 120 guests.

Ours was all separate as well. Our room rental was $800 for 4 hours, and did not include any decor other than tables. Our catering was done by a family friend, so mine is probably on the lower side, which worked out to be ~$20 per person. Everything, room, rentals, food, cake was about ~70 per person. (All this totaly depends on where you live, as well. Big city weddings cost WAY more.)

so in addition to the $115 per person, you need to be paying a venue rental fee for about a couple of thousand as well? (I’m assuming)

We haven’t signed a contract yet, but our two top choices look like this, for 100 guests. They’re both in the Charleston, SC area.
Venue #1: Room rental + exclusive caterer. Includes tables and chairs. Does not include linens. $4900 rental fee (June, saturday evening). $30-$70 per person for catering, we’re interested in the $50-$70 options, which include a full open bar and sit down plated meal.
Venue #2: Room rental fee, includes tables & chairs. You have the option to use their caterer, or use outside catering for a $500 fee. Rental fee is $4000, their catering prices range from $30 to $60 pp, plus bar packages from $12 to $21 pp (we’d be paying ~$81pp). For the $500 fee, we could easily find a caterer for under $60 pp.
For 100 guets the venue totals (including food and beverage, not including tax + gratuity) come to:
Venue #1: ~$12,000
Venue #2: ~$12,000 with catering, ~$10,500 outside caterer

Our venue was about $650 to rent. (An armory that they did a lot of work to so it actually looked pretty nice) It included tables, chairs, and use of kitchen. Our caterer charged $13 pp for 350 guests. This was for 2 meats and 4 sides and bun. Alcohol we purchased kegs and put 2000 towards the bar tab for a dRINK Buy down (common in my area). Linns we were able to get at cpat through our catereer. I dont remember the toral bit it was cheap.. We spent 300 on our cake. We got married in small town in the mid west.

catering was about $102pp, venue and rentals $108pp
We had a blank canvas venue, so we had to rent everything from tables to utensils. It racks up quickly on top of the venue rental fee.

My venue, which includes tables, chairs (but not particularly nice chairs….upgrades cost extra), china, glasses and silverwear, is $5,500 (for both ceremony and reception).
I am hiring an outside caterer for somewhere between $15 – $20 per person (we’re still finalizing the menu). Caterer can use the venue’s kitchen but not their pots and pans, and caterer must supply servers.
Over and above those costs, I still need to rent linens, and pay for alcohol (venue is a vineyard) and decorations. The bar will be just beer and wine. I haven’t priced the beer yet (it will come from a local craft brewery) but the wine is $18 per bottle. We are estimating 1.5 bottles per persson.

Our venue including alcohol, but not including food is around $14,000
venue alone is $8000,
Alcohol is around $6000
Caterer is coming in around $6000

Cost will vary by region.
I am in the MidWest. My venue includes 2 day- full building (indoor/outdoor), all tables, indoor chairs, and audio system. Caterer includes 4 hour open bar (Craft Beer/Wine), all china, and menu.
If I add those cost with the “cake” cost, we are paying $80 per person.
The linens are not included in that cost but I haven’t chosen those yet. Outdoor chairs were donated to us.

- Wedding: October 2016 - His Way Church & Chesapeake Room @ Downs Park
Venue rental for 8 hours = $660
Separate catering total = $800 (this is a flat rate that includes the food, utensils and table cloths) and for 50 guests, that works out to $16 per person!
Total = $1,460

We have 160 people, buffet dinner and an open bar for $102 per person, which includes the $3,300 facility fee.

My venue is anywhere from $59 to $75 a person. It includes the venue, linens, dinner and appetizers, open bar for 5 hours, wine at dinner and champagne toast, centerpieces and head table flowers, and the cake. I specifically choose this golf club because of these. Plus there is only one reception hall so we will be the only wedding there that day.
