I am getting married in Oct. 2013. I have decided that my wedding colors will be Deep (Eggplant) Purple and (burnt) Orange with hints of greens, deep reds and yellows to tie in the fall theme. See pictures below.
I am struggling with reception decor ideas. I have 3 fireplace mantels to decorate plus the tables. I have been wanting to incorporate lanterns into the centerpieces like the picture below, I am just not sure how to decorate around the lantern itself as I do not want to do a lot of flowers in my centerpieces but I also don’t want it to be completely plain. I was thinking maybe incorporating berries and filler flowers (baby’s breath, greenery items).
I also was hoping to do 2 different types of centerpieces so if I did the lanterns on 1/2 the tables I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions for something different on the other tables (maybe something with height?) that would go along with the lanterns.
I would appreciate any ideas/feedback you have! Thanks!

I had a purple and orange fall wedding. Good choice. I’m not sure what else you need in terms of “decor” but we had tree type centerpieces that used branches for height. At the base we had flowers mixed with artichokes, mini eggplants, and grapes. I used pumpkins and leaves in some areas like escort cards, candy table, out of town boxes, etc.

What about red branches like dogwood in a tall vase? You could surround both the vases and lanterns with berries and purple leaves (there are some plants with beautiful dark purple leaves but I don’t know what any other are called. I think some varieties of potato and sweet potato plants have them).
You could also do a cornucopia style thing with pumpkins and gourds and fall leaves. You can even paint some of the pumpkins or gourds purple:

btw I love your inspiration cake!

You could do manzanita branches with burnt orange silk flowers attached.
Add some votive candles which could be in purple holders if you like, and you’re done.
For the lantern centerpieces, you can do something minimal as far as flowers are concerned
Place just a few flowers, or branches with berries at the base of the candle.

I’m also having an October wedding this year(5 months to go!) and this is what we’re doing for our centerpieces.
There is also a fireplace but the guy who owns the property is taking care of decorating. He has lanterns that he’s putting on the ends of the mantle, putting up mums around the fireplace and then there’s the christmas lights. There might be a wreath or something hanging up to, I don’t really remember. You can easily get garland (either green or leaves) and put it on the mantles with the lanters. Or get some of the paper lanterns in different sizes and put those up there for a pop of color, they’re inexpensive and come in lots of colors.
This was just a mock-up of some fall flowers I found at Michael’s. Since then the colors have changed a little bit so we’re going to put in some more color but you can easily do with just baby’s breath and ferns.
