I have been trying to figure out my reception menu. I think we want to go for heavy appetizers/stations to keep the feel relaxed and casual. I got a quote from a caterer I really like, and I wanted to see if you think this menu would be enough. The reception is over dinner time (4-8:30):
Mushroom herb cups (appetizer)
Brick oven country bread, soaked in olive oil and grilled.
Offered with chopped tomato, basil and mozzarella
Wild Mushroom and Thyme
Sliced Beef Tenderloin
Herbed Goat Cheese
Fruit and Cheese Station
An abundant display of Melons, Berries and Citrus artfully displayed with a Domestic Cheese
Board and Fancy Crackers
Tri-colored tortellini with pesto
Penne with tomatoes, bacon, mushrooms, onions and olives in a tomato cream sauce
Served with fresh parmesan, breadsticks and pepper mill
Any advice? Thanks!!

Sounds pretty good to me. What is for dessert?

That all sounds very delicious! The only thing, besides some type of dessert (or wedding cake) that I would add is some type of fresh vegetable station with gourmet dips or a gourmet salad station with a choice of dressings.
You also could consider having a couple of passed hors d’oeuvres for the early part of the reception. Since you already have chicken and beef tenderloin planned for one of your stations, perhaps you could consider a seafood item or items, such as scallops wrapped in bacon, coconut shrimp, crab rangoons, and/or shrimp cocktail, for one or more of these.

We are doing Smith Island cake for our cake buffet 🙂 It is seriously the best cake ever!

Looks good! I love the idea of a crostini station! The only thing I would suggest is a green salad – there are a lot of carbs on the menu. A simple garden or cesear salad should be inexpensive.

Ok, so I talked with the caterer and they can also add a salad station:
pasta tossed in pesto with olives, artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes, Caesar salad, roasted corn and red pepper salad, fresh, local tomato display.
With the other stuff, how does that sound now?

Your menu sounds delicious! I like the addition of the salads, it rounds out the selection really well.
