What kind of budget do you have? I just helped my friend with her wedding. She had the reception at the Forest Park Visitors center, everything was amazing! It was probably one of the best weddings I’ve ever been to and her final total w/o rings and honeymoon came out to $11,746 and some change.

ETA: Just realized you said St. Charles, sorry 🙂

I second Quail Ridge!  Ours is booked there July 2011, and I couldn’t be happier!

You get the building from 9AM-11PM on a saturday for $650!!!!

And you can use any caterer you want, not just Genesis!

Orlando Gardens is good.  We had some dances there in high school and a friend of mine just had her wedding there.  I’ve never had a complaint about their food and the halls always looked nice too!

We went to a tasting at the Christy and we weren’t terribly impressed. I definitely recommend going to tastings where you’re considering before you sign up for anything.

I looked at the Christy in August when I was home looking for reception sites (I’m in grad school in Ohio, trying to plan a wedding from 6 hours away.. and we had either internship or classes all summer, so I didn’t have more than a weekend to look at as many places as I could and make a decision!)  It was okay, but when I walked in it was just kinda like “eh.. nothing special”.  But, everyone envisions something different for their wedding day, so even though it may not have been that “Yes, this is the place!” for me, it may be perfectly suitable for your vision for your day!

I also looked at the Stegton.  Their room that is for the 170 minimum is beautiful, but beware of Suzie Stegton.  She’s not very open to the idea of having kids at the reception (she informed me that I didn’t want my wedding to be like a Discovery Zone with kids running around.. even though I said we’d probably only have 15 kids there max, if everyone who has kids brought them, and most of them are older- ie like 8-10 years old).  SHe was also very pushy about using her in-house stuff.. like her DJ & her cake maker.  The price of the reception includes a cake & we asked if we could get a couple bucks off per person if we used an outside cake person like Wedding Wonderland.  She said no, and proceeded to lecture me on how I should be happy to be using Cakes by Georgia bc she’s been around longer than any of the other cake places I’m looking at, and how I should be happy to be getting a plainer cake bc she doesnt use any of that fondant stuff that tastes awful.  I was not a fan of getting lectured and making me feel like an idiot for even CONSIDERING anyone else.  I’ve heard good things about Cakes by Georgia, but the pictures of the cakes Suzie showed me weren’t really what I was looking for, though I’ve heard if you go through Georgia herself, she’ll be more than happy to work with you if you want something a bit fancier.

Suzie also pushed using her in house DJ too.. I already had a DJ in mind, as I heard them play at a wedding last summer & they were great.. I didnt want to go with a DJ who I had never heard before, and couldn’t look up online to read reviews.  Bottom line:  If you aren’t afraid to butt heads with this lady & really stand strong for what you want, go for it.. it’s a beautiful room when it’s all decorated, and a good price.  But, I really dislike confrontation & she has a strong personality.. and I’m more of a go with the flow type, and knew our personalities wouldn’t mesh well.

You should check out Spirited Heart Banquet Center in St Charles.  It’s a brand new facility, and the owner is SUPER friendly and SUPER sweet… loved her when I went to meet with her.  She is all about making accomodations especially for kids who will be  there; there’s a little soundproof room for kids where she has a TV and games for the kiddos to stay occupied.. also a room for the elderly relatives to go when they want to get away from the loud music, as well.  Kim, I think, is her name.  Like I said, brand new facility and it’s beautiful.  She even lets you pick the beers and wines you want for the open bar.  We ended up booking elsewhere just because I wanted a dance floor that was a little bigger, but her facility is really beautiful and she’d be a great person to work with.  Their website doesn’t have photos of their banquet center but if you call and ask to see it, they’ll show it to you.

We ended up booking with the Moolah Ballroom in Creve Couer.  I originally was looking at St Charles, too, as I’m from O’Fallon, but nothing really jumped out at me except for Spirited Heart.  Came down to that and the Moolah; the Moolah is beautiful with TONS of space and HUGE dance floor.  You do have to use Genesis Catering, but their prices are one of the better ones I had seen for the nicer reception sites in StL ($30 a person for buffet and open bar), and their food is AMAZING! We just did our food tasting recently, and everything was delicious.  The   They’ve been totally willing to work with us money-wise (with the payments and deposit) and are really fast at answering emails for any questions.  Moolah is also great for out of town guests as its right by Westport with all the hotels,  restaurants, etc.. We have a ton of Out of Town guests so that was a big deal for us.

Spirited Heart & the Moolah are both great choices, in my opinion for the price, location, ease of working with, & space!
