First find out if that is even allowed at your venue due to health dept regulations (alot of places will not allow it since it isn’t considered sanitary to reuse anything that you will be eating or drinking from). Honestly, I’d just fill them right before you plan to serve them. No need for fancy caps or sealing procedures.

@Ember78:  So weird… that’s like having to throw plates and glasses out everytime you eat, surely?

I figure so long as you’ve washed them (dishwasher or by hand) you can use them like normal decanters and I agree with PP, no need for stops.

Not throwing them out after using them but having 2-3x extras on hand to use as needed. Due to health dept rules, caterers are requried to have a clean plate for each time you go through the buffet line (or one plate per person for plated meals), along with the same for cake or whatever dessert is served. Also, why everyone is required to get a clean glass each time they go to the bar or beverage table. They don’t toss out the used plates in the trash, but they can’t reuse them during the meal due to sanitation regulations to ensure that everything is done in a manner where no one will potentially get sick. However, if you are having a backyard bbq and providing everything yourself, no one is going to report you if you reuse dishes.

As for reusing jars and bottles to serve beverages from, the health dept can come in and stop it from happening depending on the venue. Dishwashers at home don’t sanitize dishes to the same degree that a commercial dishwasher will, so there is the potential for something to happen that you haven’t prepared for, which is what they are concerned about as far as food safety goes. Again, if you are at a venue that is totally lax and doesn’t care about anything, then you will have a much easier time being able to use the recycled bottles.
