You could always do both- have a solo/duo perform for the first half of your reception when people are eating and then get the DJ to perform for the second half to get people dancing.

you could definitely do live music for cocktail hour and dinner and a dj for the reception?! id stick with dj if you dont do both, because i think they seem to get more people dancing.. but it really all depends on your guests age and preferences! i do know people enjoy bands when ive heard of brides and grooms going that route… but your guests, think of them 🙂

I prefer DJs for the reception.  If you want to spring for live musicians for the ceremony and/or cocktail hour – go for it…. but DJs really know how to get the crowd going!
