xraychick01 : Typically there’s a 30 minute – 1 hour gap between the ceremony and reception for photos, then the grand entrance of the bridal party. You could do a cocktail hour for your guests during that time. Unless you want your entrance to be as everyone is up and serving themselves food. I can maybe see that being an issue if it’s important to you to make an entrance. When are you planning to take your photos??

My ceremony and reception at are the same location and we have a 1 hour cocktail reception prior to the reception officially starting. Please note I am doing a first look beforehand to save time. My tentative day of timeline is below for you:

3:30 – Arrive at ceremony

4:00 – Guests arrive and are seated

4:15 – Ceremony begins

4:45 – Ceremony ends / cocktail hour begins / family & bridal party photo’s

5:45pm – cocktail hour ends – reception doors open

6:15pm – entrance to reception

6:30pm – dinner begins to be served (I am doing a plated dinner)

After that we’ll have speechs, dances, open the dance floor, cutting of the cake and all that fun stuff!

Here is roughly ours:

4:45 ceremony began

5:15 ceremony concluded

5:15-5:50 Short cocktail hour, we did pics with immediate family at this time

6ish Dinner was served (we had a buffet)

6:30ish Toasts

After dinner finished up, we went right into dances (first/father daughter)

Dessert began being served around 7:15 (we had ice cream) and we did the cake cutting around this time.
