Really, neither. I don’t like other people picking out my shoes. If these are for the bm’s then I’d say double no-no, as I think it’s a bit insincere to give a bridal party gift that they’re expected to use for the wedding/reception. A gift is supposed to be a treat and a thank-you, not part of the bridal party duties.

Doesn’t matter; it’s still not a gift, at least in my book, if they’re for your reception. Then they’re for you, even if someone else wears them.

By all means, pay for them, but don’t call it a gift or use it to take the place of a Bridesmaid or Best Man gift.

I like the toms and think it’s an excellent gift!

If you are doing black, then the Toms for sure!

I got my BM’s cute flip flops to change into at the reception. I got them a few other things as well, but the shoes were part of their gift.

I kinda disagree that comfy shoes for the reception are a cop out gift.  I gave little roll up ballet flats as part of our gift, and it was kind of like “I know I asked you to wear likely uncomfortable shoes for the ceremony/pictures, so if you happen to want to change, here’s an option that’s taken care of”.  If they’d brought their own comfies, or wanted to go barefoot, or just stay in their shoes… they could fill their boots.  I think if you’re not dictating they wear them at this specific time, or for that specific photo op, it counts as a gift.

That said, Tom’s are quite pricey, are they not?  I do agree that I would have a hard time with someone else picking my shoes, and would feel bad if you spent a lot of money on something that doesn’t work for me.  But I guess that could be said for a lot of gifts… so, I dunno.

Why not send both pictures to them and ask them what they prefer?  Neither shoe is to my personal taste, but honestly, I think the second ones are hideous.  They might appreciate having some say in case they feel strongly about either pair.

@lindsey.sturges:  What about just a simple black flat? You could even find sparkly ones at Target or WalMart for a lot cheaper and then you wouldn’t have to worry about a Bridesmaid or Best Man hating the shoes because you didn’t spend $50+ on each pair. That would leave you room to buy small, thoughtful gifts for each girl.

I don’t really care for either shoe, but if I had to pick, it’d be the Toms.  They are sparkly, right?  I think my friend has those, and they are cute, but I don’t think they would go with pretty bridesmaid dresses; then again, I don’t know what your BMs are wearing.  🙂

I don’t like either of those, but if they do that’s all that matters! 🙂

It’s a sweet thought, but I would never wear either of them again. I would rather a cheap pair of “fast flats” & an accompanying touch that fits my taste (in my case, I’d love wine or bodywash or something).

Personally for me it’s a neither, but I know someone like my sister would LOVE them! Would your Bridesmaid or Best Man love them? That’s what’s more important.
