(So I posted this somewhere else, then realized there was a ‘decor’ section – doh!)
I need some help coming up with centerpiece/decoration ideas for our reception tables! ๐
We are having an outdoor, afternoon wedding. The ceremony and reception are at the same place, so the guests will be seated at their tables for the ceremony. (We may have a few rows of just chairs in front for the family) Because we’re on a budget, we decided not to do a sit down dinner, but an appetizer/fruit/cheese spread + cake. Also due to budget, we’re doing disposable plates/cutlery. Soo – we won’t be having place settings on the tables – which is going to make them look very bare!
I ordered some ‘wedding madlibs’ from etsy, so I plan on putting those around the tables, but I still think it could use something else?
We don’t have a theme per se (just fun, cheap, colorful, and ‘us’ ๐ ), but my colors are very fall – purple/orange (primarily) with a little red. (I haven’t gotten table linens yet, but they will probably be purple – like plum/wine)
Since it’s afternoon, could I still get away with little votive candles? I was thinking about really colorful ribbon across the table, but not sure.. I saw this once in some wedding pictures, and it looked really nice – but the tablecloths were black.
Any help is great! <3

You could use ribbon to add some pops of your accesory colors.

You could use pumpkins and stencil a design or do monograms with thumbtacks

These are simple and inexpensive fall centerpieces

Just wanted to put out there that for the rehearsal dinner we went to goodwill and bought a bunch of those cheap vases and painted them and they came out so much better than expected them we put single flowers( you could do mums) in diff lengths and sprinkled fake fall leaves. Sounds cheesy but on the burgundy tablecloths it looked really great. Sorry I don’t have the pics. Just wanted to tell you cause it was super cheap!

@bricon: is right! Spray painting different shaped vases, glasses and other containers gives a great unified look for little money.

Oh, yes! Wedding on a budget are my favorite ones because the most original ideas come up. Besides the wedding madlibs, maybe you can get some beautiful paper napkins in the colors you want for your reception and then just place them inside the plastic cups like in the picture below ( I assume you’ll be using plastic cups for your reception, right? If so, just make sure that the cups are clear plastic):
The pictures show glassware but I’m sure it will look as nice if you use clear plastic cups. You can even stamp the napkins in one of the corners (in the corner that will be visible outside of the cup) with your name and your fiance’s or with any other stapm design you want, or maybe stamp a simple “thank you” on it. I’m sure it will look awesome on the tables.
In case you like the idea, here’s how you place the napkins. 1st, you just put it inside the cup like this:

And then you just bend that corner to the outside of the cup like this:
