Some venues will give you a deal if you pick a date that is a Friday or Sunday, or a less popular month of the year (either or, depending on their policies). I got a 10% discount of their rates by scheduling our wedding on a Sunday.

I think the best route you can go is just to be direct with them and specific about your budget.  Tell them that you are really only looking to spend X amount of dollars, and ask them if they can work with you.

How much is ridiculous? Ours is a contemporary art museum and cost $5,000. That includes ceremony site, reception site, tables and chairs. It gives us a terrace for the ceremony, ocean view room for cocktail hour, and grand court for reception.

I was able to negotiate with my venue. I got 1,500 off (they got rid of the rental fee) and they locked in the meal prices for 2009. The way I went about it was to sit down with the venue coordinator and state my expectations and I bluntly asked if the prices could be locked in and what sort of deals they were willing to do lol.

I think that some venues negotiate, and some simply don’t. Usually if they’re willing to negotiate it, they’ll do so pretty soon in the process.

i think that doing it at Fiance house is a cool idea… if it fits everything you need comfortably. I would so use my parents house but we live three hours away (although it is still not off the table)… and you’ll get to do food the way you want it!!!
