Hello everyone – This is my first post! My fiance and I got engaged a few months ago but just started doing wedding venue hunting in earnest recently. We are from the San Francisco Bay Area but considering doing our wedding in LA. Since I’m not from the area, I’m having a hard time sorting through all the options for the reception. We are expecting ~50 people and I’m fine with anything from a restaurant to an event space to a proper reception venue, so long as it has a view of some sort (ocean, cityscape, etc.). Thought I’d try to get some thoughts from y’all. Any suggestions from those who live in the area?

It really depends on your budget. The options vary significantly depending on how much you have to spend.

We’re looking to spend about $9-10K all-in (i.e., food/bev/tax/gratuity) on the reception for 50.

Cafe Del Rey is a restaurant in Marina Del Rey with a view of the harbor. I had my college graduation reception there 4 years ago w/ about 35 people in their Regatto Patio. It was beautiful! They can accommodate more people. The food was great, and they even printed out personalized menus. Price was reasonable – but that was for a graduation part… no sure if they’ll hike it up if you say the W word. http://cafedelreymarina.com/private-dining/
View and good food were my requirements for our reception site; Fiance wants it at a restaurant. We’re having about 45 guests. If you’re willing to consider Orange County, we booked at Cannons Restaurant in the Top of the Cove room in Dana Point. The view is breathtaking: cliffs, ocean, and harbor. We had dinner there to try the food and it was great too. I do admit that the room is sorta plain, so we’ll have to decorate…. but the view and decorations are worth it! Price is hella reasonable. One con for us is that there’s no patio attached. http://www.cannonsrestaurant.com/sp-events/index.html
Here are some other restaurants w/ view.
The Charthouse is also next door to Cannons, which does have a patio.
Keep in mind, we were considering having our wedding in SF and had considered Epic Roasthouse, McKormick and Koleto’s, and Waterfront Restaurant.

I tried posting last night, but it wouldn’t let me. Here’s attempt 2. Below are some restaurants w/ VIEWS in LA/OC counties. Are you considering OC? It’s beautiful down here.
http://cafedelreymarina.com/private-dining/ Marina Del Rey. Had my graduation party several years ago in private Regatta Patio w/ fireplace and floor to ceiling windows of beautiful harbor view. They made personalized printed menus.

Wow – this is very helpful! Thank you! We are considering OC. Anywhere on the coast in CA is fair game, actually. We decided to go visit places from SD to LA in a couple weeks so this gives me a great starting point to call around and get some ideas and quotes so we can figure out which ones we should visit in person. The view from The Cannon Restaurant you mentioned looks spectacular! I think the view itself is a key decoration. 🙂
Thanks so much for all the help!
