Just recently confirmed my first pregnancy and just like with everything else in my life, I go into crazy research lady! I have a million tabs open and I’m just so frustrated at the lack of reviews for obgyn’s and maternity/labor wards in my area. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for obgyn’s or hospitals in or near the Northwest side of Chicago? I’m in the Schaumburg area and some hospitals that have come up are Northwest Community Hospital, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Alexian Brothers, St. Alexius Medical and Central DuPage just to name a few.

I was born at Northwest Community hospital and I think it still has a good reputation. Northwestern Memorial downtown has amazing labor and delivery unit- some Nurse Midwives and some OBGYNs. Plus if anything goes wrong they have a high level NICU within the hospital as well as Children’s Laurie’s NICU next door. I also know that Advoate in Park Ridge is really well known for their labor and delivery unit- very good nursing care there.

I would love to stay within this region to be honest with you. But thank you for the recommendations! Looks like we’re leaning towards Elmhurst Memorial Hospital! Now off to find an obgyn 🙂

I’m 17 weeks pregnant with my first and planning to deliver at Elmhurst too. If you’re still on the hunt for a doctor, my OB is RPW Obstetrics in Elmhurst, and so far I really like them! There are 5 doctors there, and they make you see all 5 so that no matter who’s on call on the day you deliver, you’ll know your doctor. I haven’t seen all 5 yet, but the 3 I have seen so far have all been really great. And their hours are convenient; after the first couple of long appointments, I’ve been able to schedule all of my appointments for after work or on weekends, which has been awesome work-wise.

I’m a NICU nurse in your area and I always said I’d never deliver at a hospital unless they had a level III NICU, however I am exposed to the worst of the worst. Elmhurst is a very nice and new hospital! Good luck and congrats!

Elmhurst looks really nice. I live in the northwest burbs too. I chose a practice in Glenview that delivered in Evanston. It was far but fine. Next time I’m looking to go closer. I was thinking somewhere in Barrington so I can go to Alexian Brothers. Thats the barrington hospital, right?

Thanks for the advice! I’m closing out a couple appointments with my midwife that I unfortunately won’t be able to keep as they’re affiliated with NCH. I’m going to look into RPW!
Agreed! Although they did say on the tour that Edwards, their sister hospital is level III so luckily if it came down to that the baby could be transferred. They told me Elmhurst is level IIe.
Close! The one on Barrington is St. Alexius. Alexian Brothers is the one in Elk Grove Village. They’re both part of Amita Health, but St. Alexius labor and deliver is newer. Seemed pretty busy when we went on the tour.
