- Wedding: September 2012
So, I am getting married next year (probably September time) so this question isn’t exactly urgent but I thought this might be a good place to start (new here, this is my first post!) what material wedding band should we go for?
I think we’re probably going to go for ones that match (or at least look very similar – ie same material) but I want some honest opinions/experiences on wedding rings please!
To me, the wedding ring is more important than the engagement ring as I feel it is the one that lasts a lifetime and signifies that ultimate commitment – so obviously I want our rings to last a lifetime! But I also want them to look good for this lifetime too lol.
My fiance works in components so not TOO bad ‘hands on’ wise (and he has promised to start wearing the gloves provided once he has his wedding ring lol) but obviously more than average I guess, and whilst my work is computer based and I always wear gloves to clean the flat (sensitive skin) I do wash my hands a lot (not exactly OCD but I like to be clean haha). I’m hoping we can find/decide something that looks nice, that stays looking nice and can endure anything we put them through.
I know some people say the scratches on their wedding rings add character but I kind of want them to look nice for as long as possible. It’s not a vanity thing exactly – neither of us wear any jewellry normally – it’s more about keeping them at their best..I don’t know it’s tough to explain. Also whilst I do have an engagement ring, I will not be wearing it after we’re married as I want to preserve it for it’s sentimental value. It’s not an expensive ring – it’s not even diamond, it’s swarovski so it’s not going to be tough and enduring which is why I am only wearing it until we’re married – I love it and want to keep it nice but realistically wearing it forever is not going to happen, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to keep it forever. I don’t want to ‘replace’ it either though – to me it’s sentimental, it’s MY engagement ring, the one my fiance used to propose to me in the place we first ever saw each other and that means more than anything else so keeping it safe is important to me. But yeah, because I won’t be wearing it after marriage I don’t have the worry of ‘metal clash’ lol.
I have looked into everything but I am kind of stuck now lol. Here are my thoughts so far:
White gold – apparently it doesn’t last well at all so think it’s been ruled out.
Yellow gold – have been told by someone in the business that this is the best choice, but to go for 14k as it’s harder than the higher k types. Apparently if we get them from a jeweller they will re-plate them every year for free/a small fee. But I’m not sure…do they really stay nice forever – even with the re-plating? My fiance is not sure whether he wants yellow gold or not as well – he hasn’t ruled it out but not sure.
Platinum – Obviously this is expensive and being that we’re not made of money (hence my engagement ring) this might not be an option. But if we could get a good deal would it be worth it? Heard that it’s very durable but also heard it dulls quickly. Any thoughts?
Palladium – Cheaper than platinum yet very similar (although is this true?). Anyone had any experiences with this? Durable? Dulls quickly?
Titanium – Heard great things about this – very durable and looks new/lasts forever but how do they look as wedding rings?
Tungsten – Heard these are even better than titanium in terms of durability and looking new/lasting forever but again do they look nice as wedding rings?
I am completely torn here! I THINK it might end up being between yellow gold and tungsten…but would consider platinum if we could get a good deal and knew it would be worth it.
Anyway – over to you. What are you/would you go for? Or what have you gone for, and how does it look now?
Thankyou in advance 🙂
