I have been a long time reader of Weddingbee but I haven’t posted until now. As my wedding gets closer I feel like it is time to take advantage of the Weddingbee community for some help. The first item on my list of intimidating tasks is finding a premarital counselor. Does anyone have recommendations for a premarital counselor in the Minneapolis area? If you are in or have completed premarital counseling how did you find your counselor?

I’m in the same boat of just starting to look for premarital counseling classes. I don’t know anyone personally who’s been through a class in MN, but here’s what I’ve found online:

We’re going with Rev. Frank Nelson (linked above). My fiance and I met with him and he’s just a great guy – really nice. What I really liked about him was that he was incredibly open to doing the ceremony and the counseling according to my Fiance and my beliefs (or lack thereof! 🙂
We’re doing the three one-on-one sessions and already have a copy of the book he includes with the fees. It looks really good.

I’ll second the motion for Julie Coleman of Before Your Wedding Day Premarital Counseling. We’re both super-busy with our jobs, so we didn’t want a long 12-hour course, but she offers private sessions that are not only in the evenig, they’re about an hour and a half long. Two sessions meant two evenings, which was just perfect. We took an online assessment ahead of time, which we could do at any time, and then we got the results when we met with her. We got to talk over money, chores, family, pretty much everything, but my favorite part was that my fiance was into it! He actually enjoyed the sessions, even though I kind of dragged him there. It was fun getting to know more about each other and about us as a couple. Highly recommmended!

Just FYI, it’s now Julie’s husband, Rev. Tomkin Coleman, who is now conducting the sessions with Before Your Wedding Day. I’m sure he’s good, too! 🙂
