Can any bees recommend a photographer whose wedding packages run about $3000 or less? Wedding is likely to be in LA or OC, or the general area, anyway. Would also love to hear about your personal experience and how satisfied you were with the final products. Thanks!

I’m in the LA area and my fiance and I personally loved two photographers but ended up going with Joey Ikemoto who has 2-3 packages that are $3100 and below. His blog on the website is a great place to look at weddings he and his associate photographers have shot and it’s really nice being able to see “real pictures” versus all the retouched ones. He is the master photographer but since he trains his associate photographers and they only work for him and use all his up to date equipment, there is a lot of consistency throughout their photography. If you would like to see their detailed packages, feel free to PM me with your email and I can take pics for you. He is in Torrance. http://www.joeyikemoto.com
http://www.linandjirsa.com are also great photographers but their style is very different! Their style is heavily photo journalistic and fine art/fashion inspired. Their photos seem a lot more heavily edited as well. They are based more in the OC area. I don’t have much info on their packages

LA is a pretty dominant videography/photography market. There are more photographers and videographers than you can imagine. You can find people who are building their portfolio with amazing talent/skill to shoot for under $1000.
We’re paying only $500 and getting married in Malibu.

Awesome, thank you! I will PM you.
Yes, very true. Though the fact that it’s such a huge market is the reason I’m look for recommendations, rather than doing a crapshoot Google search and sifting through the results randomly.
Photography is one area where I’m willing to pay pretty well (relatively, because in some markets “paying well” means like $5-$10k I’m sure), because the photos are what will last.
At my first wedding I had a photography package that was about $3000 and included about 8 hours, 2 shooters, edited digital images with the right to use them/make prints, a professional album, and an engagement session. I’m hoping to find something similar again, though certain components are negotiable for me. (To be honest, I’m giving some thought to just calling up the same guy! 😄)

Oh goodness you’re gonna have lots of choices. To be honest I’m not sure of prices exactly but Aubree Lynn Photography is amazing, she’s based in San Diego but travels. AMAZING PHOTOS!

Cool, I will look her up! The venue hasn’t been decided yet, so it’s possible we may end up needing someone further south anyway.

As I sit here, it occurred to me that I could have been a lot more specific about what style I’m looking for because “photography” is so vague and all-encompassing.
I’d love a photographer who practices the photojournalism style and will get a lot of good, candid shots, and doesn’t just rely on portraits.
I’m avoiding photographers whose work seems to be comprised of vintagey, intentionally washed-out Instagram/Pinterest style photos. I also don’t want one who is into a lot of “high fashion” photography and makes people look like Vogue covers.
Basically I want someone who has a good eye, a good sense of proportion and flattering angles, a timeless style, and good editing skills where it’s needed for lighting and whatnot. I want to look like me in my photos, not a vintage or high fashion version of me. Some photos I see have the colors punched up a bit and are sharp and vivid, and I’m ok with that. Just not plasticky-looking skin.
The guy who did my last wedding was http://tobytucker.com
I’ve also set up an appointment with http://gregwyattphotography.com – does anyone have any experience with him?
Thos are both pretty good examples of the kind of work I like.
Thanks, ladies! 🙂

Whoa, share those secret contacts asap! We’re on a super tight budget and honestly, we’re totally down for having someone with less experience to help them out with their portfolio building.

When I contacted her last year, she had two packages under $3000. She’s fairly new, but does great work. She will also travel up to NorCal for her clients.

My photographer is based in DFW but travels to LA or NYC for free: http://www.theamberstudio.com/.

My photographer is based in Chicago and CA. She doesn’t keep an up to date blog but we are paying less than 3k for 10+ hours and 2 photographers. We are in love with our Engagement photos! DM me if you want more info.

Not sure if you’re still looking, but my photographer is fantastic and for a whole day with one photog, it’s $2k. (we had a huge wedding so we went with 2 photogs for 9+ hours and it was still only $3500.) http://www.studiosequoia.com/
Kelley, the main photographer, is freaking amazing. She kept everything moving smoothly, was absolutely sweet, and put her whole damn heart into it. If you can swing the extra $$ to have her second come, he is amazing as well and together it seemed like they were everywhere at once. They got shots that would have made zero sense in the moment, but post-wedding I heard stories about things I missed and suddenly there were those stories played out in our photos. It was uncanny.

Commenting to follow on this thread. We’re likely going with a photographer we found via Thumbtack for around 2K, but still undecided as of yet. It’s a great resource to specify budget and get quick results for your event!
