If it’s brick red, I think it would be fine. You can always do it down with a black or grey cardigan/shawl.

The reason a guest doesn’t wear white or red to a wedding is so she doesn’t seem to be attempting to “upstage” the bride. That’s a simple enough dress (certainly not a glossy satin or anything!) and it isn’t likely to match the bridesmaids – even if they’re in red. So that dress really ought to be fine.

If you know the bride quite well you could run it by her and see if she has any objection. Otherwise, I don’t think it should be something to worry about, red is a pretty acceptable color.

I don’t see a problem with red at all, in any hue. That dress is lovely, and it’s not out there (even without a blazer).

Though, I don’t know. The way I see it, if someone shows up to my wedding in a white or red dress, I can’t imagine people paying attention for too long. Though, I don’t think people need to focus on the bride and groom the entire day, either.

I wouldn’t see any issues with that, and it’s a beautiful dress!

I don’t understand how red would be upstaging the bride. Crazytown.

It’s a knee length fairly conservative dress, honestly. Should be fine.

I made this same post a while back. And I wore the strapless red dress to an evening wedding. And it was awesome and no one thought I was crazy or a hooker.

Okay…never heard the rule about not wearing red to a wedding if you’re a guest…
