Hi Bees!
Just got recently engaged and we have set our wedding date to September 2016 (I know, I know, 2.5 years from now!). I can’t stop thinking about my dress, though!
I’ve decided that I’m wearing a red wedding dress, but from the availability I’ve seen online, they all looks promish and not my style. I want something elegant. Here’s some of my inspiration:

I’ve decided the easiest route would be to have a dress made by a chinese dress maker.
So, a few questions:
- What do you think?
- Do you have any pictures of classy looking v-neck dresses of any color?
- How early should I get my dress?
- Long-sleeve in September…how is that going to go?
Thanks a bunch! I look forward to hearing from you guys.

SenoraGH: I would never order from a Chinese dressmaker. There’s just too high a risk of getting an inferior product-then what do you do? I know there are Bees who have done so, but I’m just not that brave. There have also been a number of gowns posted that were just awful quality.
I would search for a red evening gown rather than a red wedding dress. Obviously they are out there. You found lots of examples.
You could even rent one from Rent the Runway

SenoraGH: I love red! You could have a bridesmaid dress in red, some companies’ dresses are as elegant as some simpler wedding dresses.

julies1949: Yes, very risky, but I’m willing to take it if it’s fairly inexpensive. The examples I’ve found are just either way out of my budget and/or no longer buyable.
Rent the Runway is a great suggestion! I’d just be a little scared of how a dress would fit off the rack on my 5’2″ petite frame without alterations.
CatyLady: Red is awesome! I have looked at bridesmaid dresses, but unfornately they’re just too simple and don’t have anything special about them structurally. Thanks for the suggestion!

You could also find a white dress that is made of dyable materials and get it dyed red if you can’t find anything that is already red to begin with.

SenoraGH: That’s awesome! I love the idea of wearing a red wedding dress!
pharmy‘s idea is pretty good.
Also, once you find your dress, I suggest keeping the accessories delicate rather than bold, if you want to go elegant rather than funky.

geneva2: Yes, great idea. I don’t usually wear accessories to begin with, but I was thinking just some simple earrings. I’m gonna let the dress do the talking. 🙂

pharmy: Huh, I didn’t think of that. I’m ready to put my research hat on it if comes down to dying a white dress red. Thanks!

You could go to a fabric store and ask if they would recommend someone who sews well or check out alterations and tailors in your area. This way you could select your fabric and trims. A good seamstress can alter or combine patterns and you would be professionally measured.

delphinia: Funnily enough, my dad is actually a tailor (for 40 years, eek!). I could ask him, but it would be a lot of work for him. Upside, he’s my professional measurer!

I am ordering my gown from Dressilyme. I hear many good things about them.
I like the suggestion about ordering a bridesmaid dress.
It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of you wearing a red wedding dress. Whatever makes you happy.

Please post a thread or update this one when you have found the dress. This is very cool and unique!!! I can’t think of any options other than looking for red dresses that are not wedding dresses and you may end up with a winner… I think that you can find almost anything online!

Have you seen the red Gemma made by Jasmine’s. GORGEOUS! Worth considering JBS to make your dress 🙂
