My SO and I are purchasing a home in March. Woo hoo! Our close date is March 15 and we really want to have the hardwood floors sanded and refinished before we move in at the beginning of April. I know that it can take anywhere from 3-5 days and the drying process is important, so we want to do it while we aren’t living there to make sure the floor company can do their work uninterrupted.
The real dilemma we are having is that we won’t be living in the house and want to do the floors before we move in. Since we currently rent an apartment that is 30 miles away as well as work Mon-Fri, we can’t be there while the work is being done. We also would have a hard time getting there in the morning and evening to unlock and lock the doors. We plan on changing the locks before we move in… do you think it would be a terrible idea to trust our floor company with a key to the house? Is that even something people do?
As an almost first time homeowner, I just don’t have a feel for what is appropriate and how people usually arrange these sort of things. Have any of you bees embarked on this type of project? Would love some advice! Thanks!
